Loyalists caught removing Down flags

The census says otherwise. The more pertinent question is what consideration was given to local residents when these flags were put up. Could very well have been a means to fuel local tensions and I certainly hope that wasn't the case

I remember your master Ulsterwhine asking why was i involved in the GAA when i didnt agree with its Political ethos. So it is either political or Not Dell? which one is it?

the last census was done 10 years ago and our parish has nearly doubled in size in that time, needing a new primary school even. So your outdated facts are now useless. Carryduff GAC is now the biggest club in down and the parish is one of the biggest in the diocese. There was no malice in putting up of down flags just county down people trying to show their support for their team, and the flags didnt go up in any area which would be contentious they were up below the roundabout and then just as far as the roundabout, for anyone that knows carryduff this is the more catholic area and after the roundabout would be the more protestant part.

Can't help but feel those that put up these contentious flags were after a reaction. Respecting other's beliefs is the key here, if you know something is going to antagonise people then don't do it

Don't know about that depending on circumstances it can be tied in with religious and political view indirectly, especially i would think within the 6 counties.....

if it wasn't political why were british armed forces and police banned from joining.... the origional basis of the foundation of the gaa has been hijacked by political and religious arguements and sides many times since it foundation and prior to it foundation.... hence my point that it had nothing to do with sport but has been brought under the banner of sport yet again.

If that were the case you would not be posting on this website and the world would be a better place!

Disgraceful that some people in our society and especially thoise on this messageboard of whatever persuasion think it is ok to burn childrens banners and flags outside their primary school. It was reported that these children were left in tears after the destruction of their work. Who were they offending pomeroy plunket?

The majority of people in Carryduff are Protestant. Is it fair that they have to suffer Nationalist GAA flags being flown in their area? It would be the same as someone pulling down a Union Flag in a Catholic area and I would have no problem with that either"

What is particularly nationalist about a red and black flag?

There's people who would say N.I. is part of the United Kingdom so how could people get offended by flying the Union flag, yet many do find it offensive. The GAA is a Nationalist organisation, of course it is. So by flying a GAA flag you are in turn flying a Nationalist flag which Unionists would find offensive. In predominately Protestant areas like Carryduff it isn't worth the hassle

Electrify the flags with a chip and pin system ,that will soon stop them ,I have to say its disappointing that this still goes on county colours should not offend people if you want to feel offended all you have to do is visit the Tesco/Homebase/ car park in Cookstown loyalist flags on every light post since before the 12th of July and no sign of them being removed either by those who erected them of by the shop managers or even Cookstown Council.
