The sentencing of these 'fans' was virtually ignored by the Scottish media this week because most of the hacks are rabid Rangers fans and overtly loyal and sympathetic to them which comes as no surprise to many of us. When this trouble first kicked off the Scottish media quickly jumped to blame 'over the top' policing or Chelsea/English based Rangers fans for the violence. It was nonsense and boolers of the highest order but the Scottish media will not report ANYTHING that is detrimental or critical of Rangers and their 'fans'. It was the same when they caused trouble in Barcelona. Seville and Romania, the Scottish media once again blamed 'aggressive' policing whe in effect it was the drunken, sectarian slobs who follow them who were to blame. Aiden McGeady has just left Scotland and he gave one of his main reasons as the anti-Irish & anti-Catholic hatred that he got every week on and off the pitch. I visit Scotland quite regularly and while most individual Scots are decent people collectively they are very very bigoted as are most of the political, religious, media and Masonic/Orange Establishments. A recent survey showed that people in Scotland with Irish sounding names were more likely to be given longer jail sentences when in front of the courts and were far more likely to be in poorer health and socially deprived. Indeed not every Celtic fan is a saint but never in a million years could they be compared to the crowd on the South side of the city. Those who insist they are do not know Scotland, football or their history.

Hi all, Iv'e just got back from the Lincoln v Celtic game after The Imps invited our (Army) Recruiting Team to set up a display outside the groud before today's match. I just wanted to say what an utter disgrace the Celtic fans are, for the 3 hours we were there we had to endure endless abuse and chants of "Brits go home" (don't really understand that one) "Bomb the Squaddie" and "I I IRA" whilst the police stood by and did nor said nothing. I may be wrong but isn't that inciting hatred? I don't wish to blow our own trumpet but i believe we, as an Army are doing a superb job in extremely difficult circumstances and arduous conditions, and the last thing we need or want is to be abused in our country whilst attending a local football match.

That was then followed by groups of Celtic fans fighting with each other in front of kids that can't have been older that 5 or 6, and this was all before 12 o'clock. Inside the ground we watched fight after fight after fight start in the away stand and an endless stream of Celtic fans being escorted from the ground for either fighting, abusing the stewards/police or throwing flares and smoke cannisters into the crowd. They should be ashamed and embarrassed, but somehow i don't think they will be.

I will no doubt receive several comments regarding the situation at Burton and Sheffield Wednesday, but it's not the fighting that bothered me as much as the hatred and animosity shown towards me and my fellow colleagues, who are willing to spend months and months away from our loved ones, risking our lives on a daily basis to protect this great country of ours, and all for a pittance!!!

Is a little respect really THAT much to ask?????

Taken from a fan's report in July when Celtic played Lincoln in a meaningless friendly. They're some fans indeed

I suppose you would feel more at home at Ibrox PP? Maybe you, galling and monkey could start a Rangers fans club considering the love and admiration you have for them.

I was starting to get this feeling of,"now it all makes sense" as I was reading your post, and then I got to the last line and was "disappointed" to learn that you weren't in the British army after all.It would be easier to respect the opinions you have expressed on here if you were a british soldier.Unfortunately I still find you to be a most annoying individual.

By the way such chanting if true is despicable. Its their country and they should be able to recruit where they want. The armchair revolutionaries shouting their mouths off are a disgrace to themselves and any stance they claim to represent.Of course they are most likely drunken uncouth lager louts with no real convictions other than mindless hate. That goes for the "fans" of both these clubs.

Go to Celtic apark and you will see men, women and children of all ages just there to watch the football. Not only is sectarian/political chanting non existant but a f/b/c curse would get you ejected very quickly. The Celtic support police themselves and that's why they have received more plaudits, awards and praise than any other club in Europe. Furthermore at Celtic you will see many brown, black and Asian faces; a trip to Ibrox will show that their crowd is mainly white and male and there are not too many non white faces either. Celtic are not perfect but ask the citizens of Manchester, Barcelona, Seville, Milan etc who they would prefer in their city and you will get your answer. The mayor of Barcelona condemned the behaviour of Rangers fans in his city; the drunken violence, the anti-Catholic singing, the spitting and urinating on Holy Statues, the all round thuggishness. He went on to ask why they could not behave like Celtic and said he pitied Celtic fans who had to put up with them FACT!!!!!!

Not in the slightest Ulsterman, I think both clubs are equally despicable and attract the dregs of society

Including me PP who is quite stable, NEVER been unemployed or claimed benefits and never had a parking ticket in my life? Including my mates who are also all working and who love to get over to support our team and want no hassle from anyone? Including the kids who look forward to the trip, including the charities who come to the ground regularly to receive cheques from the club. Are we all the dregs of society?

If not for the old firm rivalry, maybe the ''so called fans" on both would resort to something much worse!
At least this allows them to act out their anger, in a more controlled environment!

Scruffy, no I'm not a Rangers fan

Ulsterman I never said you nor your friends where the dregs of society. Rather the Old Firm teams have much higher proportion of scum following them than other teams. As a Catholic you have decided to follow Celtic, just like many Protestants here follow Rangers. Personally I think this is an idiotic reason to support a football team but each to their own

so corkcelt, the man who bandied the 'term' WUM around so much, he who held himself above other posters with his pontificating and moralising has lowered himself to this - a WUM thread. A thread started for no reson other than to antagonise, attack and insult rangers fans. How the mighty have fallen. For shame corkcelt, for shame....

HaHa You're like the guy in Little Britain , the only Rangers Fan in the village. So if you think the thread is an attempt to wind you up, so be it. You should know, you are the expert in these matters. Anyhow I'm in the best of form at the moment. KK's 5 in a row stopped and me off to Spain in a few hours so have fun.

p.s. bad.monkey Can you answer me one genuine question before I go. Why do ye Rangers Fans take exception to players making the sign of the cross as they come on to the field. It happens all over the world and I have never heard of any other group of supporters who find it offensive. It even started to rub off on referees when Craig Bellamy was actually booked for doing it after he scored a goal at Ibrox. It was announced later that he was booked for crowd incitement now thats o.k. but what I can't understand is why an action like that would incite ye.

What is A "WUM"???

Bigapple it means 'Wind Up Merchant'. Term used to describe posters who deliberately say things in order to provoke a reaction - see posters such as Bad.monkey, Pomeroy Plunkett, liathroidboy, paddyogall etc if you want to see experts in this field at work.

As you can see sometimes people like my good self will be labelled a Wum just because I have a different opinion on certain matters. It is easier to dismiss someone as a Wum when you lack the ability to debate with them, I actually take it as a compliment
