GPA urge fans to stay off the pitch

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ah jimbodub. How do you become so regimented. Everyone knows that the Gaa top brass want to stop people coming on pitch so they can get on the pitch with their fatcat sponsors and then go to the corporate bar and slap backs and say how wonderful they are to keep the plebs away from them,

You've based that on 3 players out of 2000+

Yeah.., ok. You're right, I'm wrong...

Pitch invasions I undersand is a passionate subject... but understand that it's no longer accepted.. Players are being assaulted FFS

Point the finger to where it really belongs, it belongs with the supporter.

Not the GPA or the GAA... players feeling under threat of being assaulted after representing their county is completely unacceptable.... it is anti-GAA.

The blame lies with the supporter... we're the ones that have ruined things... maybe that's why people deep down are feeling so angry about this..

We only ourselves to blame....

It's because players are being assaulted... or are feeling under the threat of being assaulted.

They deserve much better than that and the only way to prevent such a threat is by and out and out ban...

Jaysus we're finding it hard enough to hold onto our top players.... without them having to fear for their saftey. I'm not joking you..some of you boys just cant see the bigger picture...

Not much chance of being assaulted on an Aussie rules pitch by a fan...

Have you ever been to an AFL match? Youve clearly never been part of the 5th quarter at Aussie Rules matches where they actively encourage the supporters to come on the pitch at the end of the match and give out free balls to play with. Had some great days on the pitch at the SCG

Jimbo I wasn't arguing for or against pitch invasions, I was simply making the point that this has not come from the players, it has come from the GPA top table. You're insisting that the players want to end pitch invasions but there is no evidence to suggest that this is the case. The GPA like any organisation
cannot claim to speak for it's members if doesn't consult them, that is point I am trying to make.

Suppose it makes a change from urging the players to stay off the pitch.

763359 Sounds like G.P.A. leadership and not players decision !!

Have you ever placed a bet on a GAA match...

by the way... it's a shame that you didnt start the thread so passionately over your concern for the players voice to be heard,

Because thats the very reason why the GPA exists....

depended on the player and their mood i guess - kennelly, goode, hall and a bunch of others regularly stayed out and signed autographs and kicked ball with supporters.

Jimbo,

Yes i have placed a bet on G.A.A., whats that to do with anything ??

When i played i often travelled from Athlone, Dublin and many other places to Cavan and never asked for or took a penny for travel etc because of love of the GAME, but you have hit the nail on the head regarding what this is all about ..... MONEY !! But its for the G.A.A. themselves and the sponsors !! Get it ??

The on-field after match activities will swell the coffers of the G.A.A. and the G.P.A. will get the recognition they don't deserve for being their poodles !!

It's a shame that sort of spirit like that of similar scenes in Parnell Park cant be brought into Croke Park... instead for some reason people deem it fit to verbally abuse and assault players while they are still on the pitch..

I wonder how much it cost the GAA to get the GPA's backing on this issue?

bad_monkey,

Good post. Its because the game belongs to the supporters and the supporters belong to the game !! Pity the G.A.A. hierarchy could not grasp that !!

jimbo. I hear what you're saying, but I think its you who is missing the bigger picture. What we have is unique, and pitch invasions in Sept are part of a way of doing things you won't find anywhere else. Its been going on for over a century with no hassle, and just because the GAA have decided they don't want it, doesn't mean that the entire membership should accept it, given that its us who make up the GAA.

Never seen any of the school kids assaulting players/refs/stewards in Parnell Park to be honest... it generally only children that enter the pitch during the league games... to kick a ball around.

Completly differnt scens compared to pitch invasions in Croke Park... you cant compare the two I guess.

As I said it's not the GAA's/GPA's fault that supporters deem it fit to assault players/refs/stewards... if you want someone to blame, as thats what it looks like you're triyng to do with your above statement... take a look in the mirror... it's us fans who are to blame.

It's got out of hand over the last few years.. and the pity is it's our fault. That's the simple truth of the situation...

Clap, clap, clap to us all...
