Aussie Rules Selection

I reckon Tohill will go for players with experience in the tackle so a lot of last years squad who are in any kind of form. Also players with AFL experience should get the nod: Kennelly, Clarke, O'hAilpin, Begley, Walsh, Jamie O'Reilly and Pearce Hanley...

My front six would be Donaghy, Coulter, Brogan, Clarke, Cavanagh and maybe throw in Tommy Walsh to see what happens

i personally cant wait for the series! During this years championship i now think our sport is turning into an non-contact sport, if you just put you hands on a player its a foul, gaa needs to man up as the aussies are coming and they like a cruching hit

Conor Meridith-Laois must be another one considered he has just been released from Ozzie rules football...

Marty Clarke,Kennelly, and the O hailpin brothers would give us great strenght.Eamon Fennell is too slow.

John galvin and Paddy keenan would be better options.

Joe sheridan and O reilly from Meath deserve a call up.

Shane Lennon from Louth

James kavanagh from Kildare

Benny coulter, bernard and alan brogan must also be certs!

Two big performers from the last series down under - Finian Hanley and Michael Meehan. Gareth Bradshaw might be given a go. Outside of Galway, perhaps Donnie Shine and maybe Aidan O' Shea. Cant really think of any other contenders from Connacht.

I think Bernard Brogan has to be a dead cert. His performance this year was just amazing and he is big and physical aswell. Id have cluxton in there aswell. Great man to set up attacks

may not be an obvious choice to many, but Fermanaghs Seamus Quigley even looks like some of the aussie boys minus the tan.

Ruby hit the nail on the head. We need big mobile guys and Paul Flynn definitely fits into that bracket. Michael Murphy, Paddy Keenan, MD McAuley, Niall Corkery, Dick Clerkin, Kevin Reilly, Graham Reilly, Shane O'Rourke.
Bryan Cullen came into a bit of form at the end of the year and has played six comp games so he might be in the running.

I kind of like the fact that people consider some Meath players worth a place on the panel but I dont think you are being realistic. Someone mentioned Seamus Kenny - he is about 5 foot 6 or 7 and not terribly well built. Those Aussie boys would destroy him. Kevin Reilly is big and strong and did well enough against the Aussies before, but he is just back this year after almost 2 years of constant back problems. The last thing he needs is to get involved in the sort of nonsense that will be going on. From Meath Joe Sheridan is worth a look. Graham Reilly is probably good enough, but given that he is only 21 and we could really do with him not getting badly hurt, i hope for purely selfish reasons that he doesnt get picked.

What about Quinn from Longford? How is he getting on out there? He made his first game after 6 weeks out there didnt he? Leighton Glynn was one of the top3 players last time around but it all depends on county finals. Remember Bernard Brogan had to pull out of 08 because Plunketts were in a county final at the same time.

Hopefully I'm not forgetting any...
1. Cluxton
2. Mcmahon
3. Hanley
4. Shields
5. Kenneally
6. Canty (if fit)
7. Begley
8. Earley (use him sparingly)/ Rogers
9. P O Neill
10. Galvin
11. Clarke
12. Cavanagh
13. M Murphy
14. T Walsh
15. B Coulter

Interchange: Brogan, Quigley, B Murphy, Keenan, J Kavanagh, Lacey, McAuley, McDonnell, (Antrim wing forward), etc

Too many of the players being mentioned are too slow, it's a pacey game and these lads will get shown up!

Dan Gordon must have a strong case with his versatility. He can play full back, mid field, or up front. He is also tall, strong, athletic, & a skillfull footballer.

I wouldn't dare risk Bernard in that game, he's too good for it just like Cooper was when he went a couple of times before. Keep to the midfielders or strong centre half backs playing down the middle positions. Keep the mobile players for the wings. Remember that a number of players won't play this game after what happened before. From our own crowd I'd bring Cluxton, McCauley, O'Gara, Cullen. Other lads who would be certs in my book - Canty, Donaghy, Kerrigan, Colm O'Neill, Sean Cavanagh, Justin and Joe McMahon, Coulter, Clarke, Rogers, Kennelly, Santy O'Hailpin, Galvin, Tomas O'Se, Begley, McDonnell. After that its anyones guess.
