Louth ref takes legal action after assault

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dell seems to think that all referees are a god-send.

From what I seen at club level in counties such as Louth, Monaghan, Meath and Cavan there are a few rotten eggs in the bunch.

You said earlier, no referee would go out to intentionally favour one team, I can be sure you haven't heard the full history of a few boyos so.

joseff first of all refs are assessed in meath and maybe that is why there is 3 on this years county panel in ireland. Goldrick, reilly, curley , and anyone that assaults refs are true thugs end off that argument ...

Look what has the number of Meath referees on the county panal got to do with this debate?

It's almost impossible to point anything out to you Dell, you have no comprehension of the GAA.

Sure it would be great if every referee went out to do his best and be fair to both teams (most do)
But at club level there are a number of referees in the counties I watched football/hurling that deliberately set out to favour a certain team for whatever reason.

When a refreee is a involved in daylight robbery (on purpose) then supporters have every right to express their anger.
It's the same as people expressing anger at a murderer, sex offender etc.

Why has it not ? you stated meath refs where bad or the standard was not great and am stating cant be that bad when meath refs are making the all ireland standard as 2 done quarter- finals and another done a minor -final and quarter- final. And as a ref i would never ever go out and do out any club for any reason because am there to be fair and i know of other refs to be fair , and yes refs and me might make mistakes like players, managers .

Now on assualts on refs poeple that do this are not true gaa fans just thugs and there clubs should kick them out .

I had a club or 2 abuse me during and after games but when i come across them again i class it as a new start and so do they and would never hold a grudge and they seem to calm down once i lay down my rules on abuse etc.

Thank you, clearly you have a greater understanding of the GAA than some significiant others around here.

Dell, this is the last time I will respond to you in this thread. I didn't say the standard of refereeing was bad in Meath, I said there are a few bad referees among the bunch.
Of course there are good refs in every county.
I'm glad to hear your fair Dell, but its a pitty that all referees aren't.

This debate has gone of topic, my main point is that the referee at the center of this is a unique case. He should have been banned years ago from ever taking games.
Now Dell, clearly you don't know who this guy is, so maybe you shold consider that before commenting on the situation.

That is all I have to say on this.

joseff i watched a game few weeks ago involving my club and our full forward caught a ball and fell to the ground after a few seconds the ref give a free out our line went mad and said it should have been a penalty but i disagreed as i thought the ref was correct even though it was my club , he got awfull abuse over it and i told my club they where wrong and where a disgrace on there abuse.

Now on this ref the county board are letting him do games so maybe he is not as bad as made out , not sure in louth but i have been assessed 12 times this year and i was told there is nothing wrong with my reffereeing despite 2 incidents in games this year where hell broke loose . Also i was informed sunday evening by a assesser and he told me i will go places and he thinks am fair, keep up with play etc and despite me getting thumped in one game in which i thought i was correct and backed up by certain poeple .

Now i would just to like to add that been assaulted on a pitch or coming off it is not very nice and it is a lonely place but others give me courage to keep the whistle in my mouth and keep reffing , and i might never make it to the top but i train hard watch senior refs above me and intercounty ones to improve my game as at the start of this year i did not have some good games but changed my system after a certain local derby which i thought really helped me and the refs boss also spoke to me after some games and i feel it helped me alot and now i feel am doing well 90 odd games between underage and adult football this year , i also respect players and clubs and i expect respect both ways .

Refs or young refs are scared to do games because of this certain type off behavouir is going on in our games so lads give young refs a chance and engourage them and help them.

RESPECT .....IS ALL REFS WANT.

Not trying to be smart with ya or anything cause its a genuine question i have no knowledge on it but are refs assesed periodically or anything during the course of a year or how did you come to be assesed ?
I always make it a effort not to abuse a ref because i think sometimes if you do continually abuse a ref even if there is a free or something to go your way might not get it

Ck0_3000 assessers come to assess me in a game and i do not know there at the game till after when they come to my changing room and i was assessed by 4 different poeple this year but few clubs maybe helped my case by telling county board poeple about my perfomances but would have couple of clubs complain about me and when that happens i be reviewed again but have not got one bad assement this year but know off refs that have , Also there is abuse and shouting as 2 different things shouting i do not mind like ah ref or now way ref but when they call you names that is abuse .
