This Cork V Kilkenny arguement is a joke. There are 87,558 people in Kilkenny, 481,295 people in cork at last counting in 2006 so obviously it is a lot more sustainable for cork to produce strong teams at both codes. Kilkenny is a tiny country and the conveyor belt of talent in hurling they are producing at the moment is a credit to them. I take the point that other codes like Rugby and soccer are played also alot in cork but to critise Kilkenny for not being good at both codes is a disgrace. Hurling is the best game in the world and this current crop of Kilkenny players have been brilliant to watch and regardless if they win the 5 in a row we will be talking about the likes of Walsh and Sheflin for years to come as legends of the game. They get on with their business with great dignity and what young person in Kilkenny would want to play a different sport.

I agree with most of what you said about the final last year....

But the injuries to shefflin and now Walsh will test the kilkenny squad to the limit..... Sheedy I think now has the selection problem and there even more competition for places now after the waterford match.... I hoping for another cracker 1st week of september.

I think both sides at full strength,kk win by 4 or 5.KK missing shefflin, possibly rice, hogan and tennyson missing it,KK to shade it.KK without shefflin and walsh,Tip to shade it

booboo we could be debating this point forever and we wouldnt agree,so lets agree to disagree, there is one point I would like to enlighten you on,you say the kids have only 1 sport,in my parish the u/15 soccer team got to the last 8 in Ireland,we have a strong soccer club,a strong badminton club, many of our young people are very much into atheletics and are members of clubs in adjoining parishes, rugby is very stong in the city,so our children have many sports to play except hurling

Tip have progressed nicely since the Cork game. Tipp yesterday showed good battling qualities and in Eoin Kelly they have a superb forward and John O' bRIEN HAS EVENTUALLY SCORED FREELY. Kilkenny will have Hickey on Kelly and that will determine how well the Tip full forward line does. It seems that Lar Corbett will wander all over the field and he will cause Kilkenny problems with his mobility.
The loss of Shefflin I believe is huge as there is no sub on the Kilkenny team that comes near his contribution through free taking, hooking and above all giving the killer pass for a goal. His loss I believe is substantial and takes a lot of the gloss off Kilkenny. People point to Richie Power but the Tip full back line as a whole is in my opinion a lot better equipped and mature that Corks full back line and will put on the clampers on Power and without Shefflin Brennan will not get as many goal opportunities.

Kilkenny I believe have their ace in Fennelly at midfield and the Tip pairing will have a lot to do to curb his drives forward. If Kilkenny adopt the same tactics as they did against Cork on puck outs, I expect Kilkenny to win a lot of possession, but the ball then into their inside forwards will be more difficult for the inside Kilkenny forwards to gain and sore from.

Overall, many point to Tips hunger for revenge for last year, and this is indeed a great motivational tool, but Kilkenny are so focussed on winning 'this All Ireland' that they too will not want for motivation. This issue of Kilkenny falling as Kerry did due to the weight of expectation, could be an issue if the mental side is lacking in Kilkenny... but does anybody really believe that Brian Coady or Mick Dempsey or Martin Fogarty will leave that to chance?

In conclusion, both teams have their strengths and both will be seriously motivated and I expect a titanic struggle and it will take a goal or 2 to win...could go either way...just hope its a good game! But when pressed, I think Kilkenny will want to win ... more, because of last years All Ireland debate on the penalty... that to me will be the real motivational aspect that will drive Kilkenny on.

Think the Shefflin factor is massive. First championship game he will have missed since he made the team, be inteesting to see how they will do without him. That said I felt all year that if Kilkenny made the final regardless they would win, so I am backing and hoping Kilkenny win. They deserve it.

ye used a lot of excuses against Limerick in 1973 and also in 1991 when ye were giving out about Michael Clearys free in!

Tipp are the only team that can give Kilkenny a game of sorts and it should be a cracker but expect the Cats to draw deep for 5 in a row. Kilkenny by 4 or 5. Tipp were very rough today, they belted Mullane and any other Waterford player every time they came near the ball and played on the edge at times. I wonder will some GAA commentators give them as rough a time as they gave Tyrone/Armagh and even Meath for playing at the extremes of physicality? I won't hold my breath, the hurling boys seem a harder tougher breed who don't moan as much as some of the more traditional football counties when they are beat.

Ulsterman,

Well I guess its time Tipp started playing on the edge shure Kilkenny are doing it for the last 4 years.
