Kilkenny V Tipperary All Ireland SHC Final 2010

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Tyrell challenge was payback for the League Final. Simple as. And if one of your own feels the need to come on this thread and type "ha ha" in relation to a serious injury sustained by Brian Hogan then the very least I can do is return the compliment. It would be bad manners not to so do. After all if you can give it makes sense you should be able to take it too.

I see Cody is nor ruling out Shefflin yet and now Ritchie Power is supposed to be on crutches but is expected to be fit for the final hes not ruling out Tennyson either! That doesnt sound like Cody never saw him at that before must be a little bit of panic seeing as he knows who they are up against. Anyway all in Tipp want the full Kilkenny team on as we dont want ant if this and if that excuses after the game!!

Fera of the premier I guess trying to play up the injuries shure we all know theyl have a full team on the day who are they trying to kid!! Cody and Kilkenny just get on eith it and get ready to face the power of the blue and Gold!!

It now looks that Shefflin could possibly play some part in the final. Would be great if he does as it would be fitting if he was on the field of play if they win the 5 in a row.I still cannot see it happening however unless the damage isnt as bad as earlier reported. If he's playing they will be a dead cert.

How can a player play with a torn cruciate ligament injury?

Would he be risking long term damage if he plays?

i hope shefflin plays some part if they're winning by a bit at the end they might put him on but if the pressure's on and tipp are leading by 2 with 10 mins to go i can't see him being brought on

The word around KK is that both Shefflin and Tennyson have fighting chances of being fit for the final. Would be great to see them both back and in all fairness I dont think Tipp would be happy playing an under-strength Kilkenny team going for the 5 in a row.

There ll be no excuses injurys or no injurys. This is the Killkenny team that have strenght and dept on the bench probably a dozen all ireland medels just sitting on the bench at any given time. But all I m hearing and reading is that the cats have uped the anti this year. This confuses me because they had a brutal league losing 3 times, they gave Dublin a good hidingl in the leinster semi fair enough. Then they beat galway who never showed by only 7 points scoring only 1 19 in the leinster final and against cork they hammered them in the first half and only did enough in the second half not characteristic of a killkenny who uasaly shows no mercey to any team as a matter of fact cork out scored them in the second half.
Up the preimier this is our year......

Reasons why I think Tipp can win

1. Will Cody try and change his tactics...probably not. And if so there will be plenty of high balls raining down on Curran, Fanning, O'Mahony and Maher...they gobbled up 95% of the high ball last year with Maher and O'Mahony in particular being excellent and also having the 2 best midfield fielders of high balls at midfield being another major plus.
2. Cody tends to resist change when it comes to his top 10 to 12 players and if Power for example isn't playing well...which in fairness he has struggled over the last few years to put 2 really top performances back to back then the likelyhood is he will be left on, especially with Shefflin either out or playing with an injury. Also, Cody will take a chance on Hogan and Shefflin if possibly at all as he knows that they are simply irreplaceable on the team. And if Klkenny are with out these 2 they'll be working off a 17 man panel in my opinion.
3. If Brian Hogan starts Tipp will target him, which they would have done injurd or not. He conceeded 8 points from his direct markers last year (Corbett and Callinan). Putting a natural finisher like McGrath out there, I'd argue that Tipp would rather see a natural "sweeper type" centre back like Hogan playing than a man marker type player like Ryall as they will believe they can expose Hogan again.
4. Eoin Kelly has to start on Jackie Tyrell...destroyed him last year and with Tyrell having trouble with marking the likes of Kelly last year and getting a roasting from Pat Horgan, then perhaps this can be an area where Tipp can get an advantage.
5. Tipps young half forward line will be the subject of much debate....but what you have is two of the best and most natural strikers of a ball in Ryan and McGrath, then supplied with the right type of ball they can do damage from distance. I think either Maher (with his get in your face attitude) or Ryan who will come deep and look to score from distance, have the potential to cause problems for Tommy Walsh. Especially if Ryan comes deep and scores he will draw Walsh out.
6. I'd be confident we will win the midfield battle, Brendan Maher should get both player of the year awards this year.

Obviously Kilkenny will have plenty of reasons why they think they will win, one major worry from a Tipp point of view would be a lack of pace four of the Tipp backs have. However, heres hoping for a great final (well I couldnt really care if Tipp won!)

May the best team win!

They lost to Tipp in the league because they werent good enough thats the reason and by the way the Premier will test their strength in depth as actually I think Tipp have better guys on the bench to come than they do I think Tipp are by far the better team and really should be going for two in a row this year. I wonder how many more Kilkenny players will feign injury before the final?

Really can't wait for this game now. Think it will be a day in the local, sitting down for the first pint at 3PM and leaving after the Sunday game is over.

The All-Ireland final is probably the greatest day on the Irish sporting calendar, regardless of who reaches the final. The build up, the tactical analysis, the sides parading, the game itself, then the Sunday game that night to see the reactions & who got man of the match.

All in all, great stuff. Should be a cracking day.

Do you think the Kilkenny players might recover from the Tipperaryitis bug thats affecting so many of them in time for the game Slayer?
How many points do you think Tipp will win by?

thurlesblues,

I think tipp will win yes. But then again I thought Cork would beat Kilkenny and I thought Waterford would beat Tipp. Who am I to make a prediction? :-)

What I like about Tipp is the work rate & speed they have brought to their play over the last 2 years. That will need to up that again for this final. Kilkenny have seen it all before. Remember this side hasn't been beaten in Croke Park since August 2005. The players will all know exactly how to build up to the game, they are after all one of the most professional sides in GAA history.

My prediction is Tipp 2-21 Kilkenny 2-19. But this Kilkenny side could turn it all on it's head and win easily. Should be a great game.

Galway want U21 final moved from Thurles

Semple Stadium Thurles
25 August 2010

Galway chiefs have called on Croke Park to change the venue for this year's Bord Gais Under 21HC final to be changed, deeming Semple Stadium as an "unfair advantage" to opponents Tipperary.

we play them in Galway if they want it wont change the result shure God help us!!!

hurlingguru, I was watching the All Ireland semi final between cork and Kilkenny! Did you miss it? 6 points for a team that were getting a serious beating is a fair return from a forward whose got a very limited supply of ball, so yes Tyrell did get a roasting.

And in what part of my post do I show any form of cockiness. All I am doing is trying to be forward reasons why Tipp could (not will) possibly win.

Whats your interest in supporting your neighbours ans rivals?
