I think I can clear this whole thing up... I'm fully sure it was Dooher wheezing up and down the pitch that was making the whistling noise. Go easy on the old guy

Some of the responses here are nuts! "He should have played on...". WHAT???

Thousands upon thousands of young footballers are taught to play to the the whistle. Now it seems we have to play past the whistle as well.

A moronic defense of morons.

@Pomeroy Plunkett: what do you mean by Dublin disgracing themselves on and off the pitch? Didn't see the players blowing a whistle or booing frees.
I was in the Hogan Stand and heard the whistle quite clearly - Penrose should've kept going and if it did turn out that it was in fact the referee that had blown the whistle then the goal would've been disallowed just like when McQuillan blew the whistle in the Kerry v Down game, Young kept going and the referee didn't award the goal.
@Blu: there was a sizeable amount of Down fans in front of me at the front of the hogan stand and they were goading Kerry fans at every opportunity. Quite a few were fairly eloquent with their language particularly when Downs goal was disallowed.
The fact is every county has their rogue supporters and their genuine supporters - the trick is to not tar everyone with the same brush.
Tyrones poor shooting when the game was level probably cost them (even though they were shooting into the Davin end where there were no whistles) and Dublin capitalised on that so in truth you could say that maybe the better team did not win but the hungier team did.

What was with the extra whistles on the hill on Saturday? surely the stewards should have kicked out the culprit? Tyrone denied a certain goal as well as being put off for the one that hit the woodwork...

I noticed this happening once during the game.

Someone hit an aimless ball to Cluxton and Penrose stopped, turned round and gave the kicker a "do you think I grew 6 feet" look.

When was the certain goal incident, I missed that one?

Only a Simpleton would take a whistle to a match, or someone who doesnt have a clue about the game they are watching.

Haha so funny... NOT!!! The guy has more Senior All Ireland medals than the entire Dublin squad. Who do you think is the one laughing???

Now you are making things up. It happened more than once during the game, but it was irrelevant. Cluxton was on his line at the time and would not have got the ball before Penrose, but I think that he would have been too wide for a goal, a point possibly. The fact of the matter is that Tyrone kicked more than enough wides in the game to win another game and this is what cost the game.

RebelTrev, I was always taught to play to the whistle, now is it that you have to play until the ref blows his whistle 3 times. or 4 or what?

Jarlth burns pointed this out on BBC coverage he also said the same Whistler was doing it during the Armagh and Louth games at and it only ever happened when the opposition was on the attack inside the Hill 16 Goal area, well you do get gamesmanship in all sports most coming from the opposing players ,it will be interesting to here if the" little whistler on the hill"will be up to his tricks against Cork, Goodluck again to The Dub's on there win over Tyrone it wasn't a little whistler that beat us on Saturday nor the fact we hit 18 odd wides beaten by a team that showed more hunger than us.

I not only blame the whistler but the fans beside him/her for not telling them to stop. There are a few that are disrespecting the game and that should not be pardoned. The game on the other hand was hard and fair and our inability to score caused us to lose. I wish evryone who supports Dublin a great day out against Cork (except the whistler). I will however switch my support to Down. They will find it tough against Kildare initially and Cork or Dublin but I wish them all the best.

God almighty, talk about classless in defeat. Very suprised at some of the tyrone posters - you were beaten fair and square. A couple of kids blowing whistles is, frankly, a pathetic attempt to cause a stir. As for neacalbeaga, I bet he had his ear up to the tv, hoping that the dubs made a sound during the minutes silence. Grow up and get a god damn life.

Have to say I was in the upper cusack towards canal end side of the middle, and everytime Tyrone were on the attack first half the whistling started from the Hill.
It was very annoying. Penrose clearly stopped, thinking the ref had blown for something.
I'm not saying this is why Tyrone lost but it shouldn't be allowed to happen. The stewards should have been able to identify the culprit and eject them.

The genuine GAA Dub fan is the salt of the earth and I have a real soft spot for them however they do have an element that can be quite intimidating.

Im all fairne 45, I would suggest that 18 wides had plenty to do with it despite Dublins performance
