Who will win Sam now?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Sam, of course I am using other games as examples. If we didn't use other games as examples then nobody would have any reason to say that the Kilkenny footballers couldn't go out and hammer Cork or Kerry tommorow. We have nothing else to go on. How else are you supposed to evaluate teams? I never said the Kildare forwards were poor, I just said it was a little over the top to call them better than Kerry's. Find me 1 poster from another county who agree's that Kildare's best 6 forwards are better than Kerry's best 6.

Well Sammaguire09,

Kerry only got 15 points against them after extra time in the drawn game and only 1-15 after extra time in the replay. That was the full Kerry foward line against a Cork backline missing 2 regulars. I would personally rate the Kerry forward line as better than Kildare's.

I wouldn't say the forwards are Kildare's biggest strength. I would be thinkin more your midfield. Unfortunately, I am thinking Cork may dominate you there too if you make the final. If this team could find a top class forward (or 2) they would be unstoppable. As it is, they will do enough to win

This is a quote from you Ja. I appreciate using performances from other games as a benchmark of where a team is at but saying that Kildare wont score 15 points because thats all Kerry could notch up, well its absolutely ridiculous. Can you agree with me there? If you were a Kildare fan would you not be confident? Our last three games have been very impressive, as they say you can only beat what is put in front of you, which is what we have done, quite comprehensively.

Man for man this season, by the numbers on their back last weekend….

James Kavanagh v Darren O'Sullivan - JK
Padraig O'Neill v Declan O'Sullivan - Draw
Eoghan O'Flaherty v Donnacha Walsh - Flats
Johnny Doyle v Colm Cooper - Draw
Alan Smith v Kieran Donaghy - Very close, neither have shone but Donnaghy
Eamonn Callaghan v Brian Sheehan - Leper

Now, I am biased but I tried to judge them honestly and I came up with Kildare winning 3, Kerry 1 and two draws.

Who disagrees?

I think you are correct on some, but very generous also on others.
Yes, James Kavanagh ahead of Darren O'Sullivan.
Declan O'Sullivan is the best centre forward in the country and sorry Padraig O'Neill isn't in the same class.
Donnacha Walsh and Eoghan O'Flatherty would be even, as Walsh has performances behind him and young O'Flatherty is still learning.
Johnny Doyle is unfortunate that he is probably going up against the best corner forward of his time, so the Gooch. Anybody else and Doyle would get the nod.
Even though I'm not a great fan of Kieran Donaghy as a person, but football wise sorry he is simply better than an always improving Alan Smith.
Eamonn Callaghan and Bryan Sheehan would be a draw..

All summed up Kerry 4, Kildare 1 and one all square. But Kildare an always improving side. Kerry have proven players and thats how they would be ranked higher than the Kildare forwards. In 12 months time it could be a very different analyse. One advantage Kildare fans have over me or any Kerry fan on here,is that they are still in the running for Sam and thoroughly deserve their place in the last four. So this opinion and comparison is slightly worthless.

735683 "Cork would seem to be most neutrals favorite. "

Disagree. Would have thought most netrals would go for Kildare or possibly Down imo.

Personally I'd love to see the Dubs do it and if not them, then Kildare.

I agree Down would have the neutral support NOT Kildare. The Kildare are not particularly liked as they are seen as the snobbish county.

As predicted, if Cork meet Down in the final it will be heavy going but is by some magic Kildare win it will end up like a lack lustre one sided affair like the Ulster final and Cork will be the victors.

The reason I'm ruling out Dublin is I feel they just lack that bit of extra experience Cork have got.

sedico I take it you have been told or worked it out for yourself what is meant by "has the penny not dropped yet" since you previous query to me. Well, its looks like to some other Kildare posters haven't awoken to reality of their situation. Dream on if yous want to!

West Rules, to quote you from the post you refer to - 'As for your query about Kildare i think 'the penny has dropped' for you yet'. So no, I still don't understand that statement because it doesn't read properly at all. Would it be possible that you forgot a word there somewhere?

judgin by the turnouts at croker last weekend , if we had roscommons support were sorted! outnumbered us all on sunday!
louth will hope we win too.. anyone who doesnt want kildare to win because were 'arrogant' is being a bit childish.. i thought the neutral would support good football which would mean they would follow us..although down do play some great football. cork and dublin are fairly one dimensionel though

Last week I felt Kildare we the best team outside the old 'Top 3'

I'll stick with that and go for Cork to beat Kildare in the final

Hi Enola Gay your some Ulster supporter preferring Kildare to Down.

Leaving that matter aside, Kildare's luck is unsustainable and when one looks at the team's performances they lack what Cork, Dublin and Down have and that is basic good ball skills. The latter three mentioned also make more intelligent use of the ball and this is particularly evident with the Cork team.

I still say it will be a Cork v Down final!

Its now official West Rules. You really don't have a clue what you are on about. To suggest that Kildare don't use the ball intelligently is utter nonsense.

From now on I'm refraining from replying to your posts. I like a debate on GAA more than most, but I also like it to be somewhat coherent and informed. Unfortunately your posts are neither.
