Larry Murphy: Why is this "man" being let out?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

He refused counselling while in prison - He has in no way been rehabilitated. He may come out worse... if that's possible.

He has never apologised to his victim

He has shown no remorse - A common trait amongst serial killers.

He has been linked to 4 other cases of missing women and with the help of the FBI he fits their profile, and lived within close proximity to all cases... which links him further through geographical profiling. He is the prime suspect in all these cases.

Since his arrest in the 1990's the pattern of missing women in this geographical location has ceased

This was not the first woman he abducted - His actions that night were calculated and practiced.

And yet our justice system deems him fit to be released 5 years early on the 11th of August 2010 without one counselling session, without any treatment, without apologising, without showing remorse.

We're releasing a monster…

people wonder why the level of crime is going up .. this is why .. cause criminals know that they can kill someone and be released in 5-10 years .. I read somewhere that a man was given a 3 year suspended sentence for raping two girls .. what justice is that for the victims ? crazy

Jimbodub,

I agree totally !! Larry Murphy is indeed a monster and but for two curious hunters he would have been free to continue his murderous rampage. I feel that he will definitely strike again. I have followed this case for some time and Larry is a psychopath and as you say he has shown no remorse whatsoever. Should never be released. He did not even answer any questions when interviewed and may have more victims behind him too !!

There will be 30 armed detectives watching him.... for two reasons.

1 = The communities protection

2 = Larry Murphy's protection

These kind of monsters should be made to do hard work from 8 am to 8pm and only get food if they do all work they're supposed to do

Not really because the system is still wrong, judging by your post.

I mean the man was locked up, no attempt to provide rehabilitation or understanding or indeed the root cause of his crimes.

Until the country starts doing that, and educating the masses, I suspect we might get a few more Murphys.

30 armed detectives - that many? - waste of police time.

It was offered, it was then declined.

No remorse, no apology and he get's 5 years reduced for "good behaviour"

Yes, that sure is how a human being should behave alright..

It was introduced in 2009, probably 150 years too late.

have ye ever been in Mountjoy? Believe me it is not conducive to rehabilitation.

Not cpompared to say enlightened countries like Sweden who have very few reoffenders.

But then they have a better society than us and could use that as an incentive.

Is that true about 30 armed guards assigned to protect him??? Surely it would be administratively cheaper to keep him locked up....

It is shocking, though I'd like to know the full story from the state's POV, I mean if there was any threat of recidivism they wouldn't go ahead with it, I'd naively like to think. I wonder is it just a blanket thing that the offender's early release is based on his behavior in prison and not his original crime/perceived threat to society, surely not....

Yeah, Scandinavian countries take a much more humanitarian approach to their judicial system, prison is a last resort but it's based around rehabilitation rather than punishment. Your whole time in prison is spent in preparation for rejoining society. Denmark (Danish prisions are like apartments) has a re-offending rate of 27 (ours is well over 60 I think), so don't have a pop at liberalism in this regard because their way works....
