Its such an injustice; it was Louth's title....practically four minutes into injury time, a goal which is disallowed in GAA rules is given to Meath.....sorry its wrong. If they can use video evidence for one thing=they can use if for this too. It should be Louth's title-its the only fairest thing!

the louth manager has said after the match that the ref told him after the game in his dressing room that if he didnt give the goal it was a penalty.so why did he not give the penalty.

lads, it wasn't a fair goal but if you look at some other decisions in the match 9/10 went in Louths favour. The ref was a disgrace throughout and Louth can only complain about reffing in the last 30 seconds as before that the ref did nothing but favours for Louth

I left in disgust when we were 1-10 to 0-10 down.

Then heard on the radio that we had won.

Apparantly a controversial decision? Think on the balance of it, we probably deserved the win, no?

The decision to allow the goal at the end was a disgrace, and it is unclear whether or not it was the referee of the umpire. But had Meath lost this game because of a litany of truly preposterous refereeing decisions resulting in four or five cheap and wholly undeserved points for Louth and then two clear fouls on Sheridan and O'Rourke in front of goal that were not given, in Sheridan's case it was incredibly given as a free out! Crawford unbelievably got booked when Louth player actually kicked him as he went down for a ball! Crawford was again inexplicably penalised when having caught a clean ball in the air a Louth player clattered headlong into him and from the resulting free Louth created a score. Lennon got Kevin Reilly a yellow card and won a cheap and ill-deserved point at the end of the first half when dived to the ground having lost possession. in addition to all this the cynicism of the Louth players in kicking the ball away, as they did time and time again in the final 7 minutes should have resulted in more cards, and more yardage to Meath. It did not, and Meath got precious little from referee Sludden all day.

I completely agree that the final goal was a heinous mistake, but had Meath lost this game today then would have been entitled to feel just as aggreived as the Louth players do in light of that awful decision.

I think that the simple truth of it all is that this was a poor game of football played by two ordinary teams who have more weaknesses than strengths and who will both be found out by better teams before then of the season.

I think would entitled the there at least four freabsolutely nothing all day long from Sludden, and least two frees in front of the posts on O'Rourke and Sheridan in last quarter that

I hope the CCCCCCCCCCCCCCC will pay as much attention to today as they did to Tomás Ó'Sé last week.

Meath are not cheats. There is no comparison between Joe Sheridan and Thierry Henry. Joe clearly fell over the line. Meath have nothing to apologise for. I feel sorry for the Louth players and the Louth fans and I would be livid if the shoe was on the other foot. The umprire and ref made a mistake. It was just a mistake. I'd also be livid if any Meath fan behaved like those handful of Louth fans did today. There should not be a replay. Meath didn't perform well today but they've proved over the course of the Leinster Championship, they are deserved winners.

I don't think there's ever been a more controversial way for a team to have won a Leinster final. Louth fans, I really do feel for you, thats an awful injustice to have to bear especially when you were that close to winning your first Leinster in 53 years.
But I'm sorry to say there's no point in getting your hopes up for any chance of a replay. If this happened in the 1st or 20th or 45th minute of the game, it would just go down as a controversial decision and no talk of a replay. Kick in the guts I know but sadly thats gonna be the way it goes, as far as I know there's no legislation in the rule book by which a replay in such circumstances can be allowed.

Couple of points on this thread - Delboy you're spot on, 1995 was the year that Laois offered Carlow the replay for the point that never was.

People saying that the fans that attacked the referee are obvious blow in soccer supporters - how do you know who they are or what their favored sport is or whether this was their first time in Croke Park. For all we know some of those lads are chairman of GAA clubs in Louth. Either way, those people should be banned for life.

If the referee has any sense, he should sue the GAA. If a referee can be attacked on live TV in Croke Park like that, then no referee is safe. Its time to end this carry on once and for all. The GAA need a serious wake up call. I'm sick of hearing about referees up and down the country being attacked. Its time to set a precedent. No point in sweeping this under the carpet, its time to take this very seriously. Crowds running onto pitches in general has to stop once and for all. I said some time ago that the GAA are one insurance claim away from getting in some very serious trouble, that could easily have been today. Are we going to have to wait for someone to get seriously hurt before the GAA act?

That Leinster title Meath received today is NOTHING to be proud of. A disgrace...and we all slated Henry for doin something similar in the Irish game last year....thought GAA was bout real sportsmanship, there was nothing sporting about Meath ROBBING Louth of that title today. Daylight robbery...and that Ref......should never be allowed ref a game again in my opinion.......my sympinihies go to everyone in Louth...if it was the Dubs Id be devastated...

I dont understand how the ref could say he was going to give a penalty? Joe got the ball ran into about 2 louth lads and they all fell in a heap. How was that meant to be a penalty? If he was gonna give it he should have given it. We all see what happened with Ghana

The choice is simple. The illegal Meath goal does not count thus Louth are the winners or the result stands. There cannot be a replay as it was not a draw.

Louth don't deserve a replay they deserve nothing as they shouldn't have let Joe Sheridan get within 10 yards of the goal.It showed that Louth are still learnng at this level that there wasn't someone assigned to Meaths goal threats to stop them getting anywhere near the goal.

Hard Luck to Louth and although this is a hard pill to swallow if they can learn from it they should come back a stronger team although I would doubt if they can win their next match in the qualifiers.

On another note did anyone else see a blatant gouge by number 11 on the Louth team on Seamus Kenny after about 37-38 mins?? After all the publicity about Galvin will this get coverage?

Whoever said 9/10 decisions went to Louth....don't make me laugh!! I was at the game and Meath should of been down to 14 men for an off the ball striking on a Louth player. I lost count how many times Meath men threw the ball and weren't called!! If the ref said if it wasn't a goal than it would be a penalty....well then before all that it would of been a square ball. I've lost all respect for Meath football....a county I used to admire in football circles. That ref and umpire shhould pack in the job too.

twisted menace unfortunately your county seems to be unfairly targeted by the suits involved in the CCCCCCCCCC or whatever it is called. It has reached ridiculous levels as the offences committed by Tomas O Se were not the worst committed over that weekend but received all the publicity.

This shows exactly what is wrong with the GAA.Louth were robbed by a completly wrong decision by the Referee.Louth were by the far the better team no doubt there. Ref played 2 mins over, how could umpires miss that is beyond a joke. Louth deserve at least a replay.... Offaly got this in 1998 Louth deserve it today...
