The Leinster Final of 2010 will always be remembered as the one where Joe Sheridan threw the ball into the net to steal teh game from Louth. joseff (Louth) - Posts: 964 - 12/07/2010 14:03:26 705175 Link 0 |

As a meath supporter I can say that yesterday's victory was hardly worth celebrating however this talk of a replay is just childish. Not to be patronising but - these things happen, sometimes a bad decision goes for you and sometimes against. Replaying all the matches with dodgey ref decisions would take forever. We wouldn't be even having this debate of a replay if it was Dublin and Meath and either side had been wronged. Its just because Louth were the underdogs and they played a great game. Its immature to think that a replay should be offered, just the same way its immature to boo at a freetaker squaring up to take a free and the same way its immature to kick the ball over the sideline twice in the dying minutes of the game. Real louth fans (who didnt just jump on the bandwagon and buy their jerseys last saturday) will acknowledge the unfairness of it but move on..Louth have a good side but they'll have to work on keeping the head when they are ahead. Also to the Mayo supporter who mentioned the 'goal' last year against Mayo- yes you are right a replay wasnt offered but in that case Meath still won by 4 points. bee23 (Meath) - Posts: 3 - 12/07/2010 14:05:33 705184 Link 0 |
Louth only had 6 or 7 players around their goals at the end...they should have had 11 or 12 and then Seamus Kenny or Joe Sheridan wouldn't have got through but that's not taking away from the fact that the goal shouldn't have been allowed mayoboy1 (Mayo) - Posts: 1654 - 12/07/2010 14:05:35 705185 Link 0 |

Louth could and should have won that game yesterday, they failed to take their chances, if they had been four or five points ahead then there wouldn't be a word about the goal at the end, I feel sorry for the louth supporters and its hard to come away from croke park having lost a big game, the whole of kildare were heartbroken after the all Ireland in 98 but thats sport and I am sure this louth team will have learned from it and give a hard game to whichever county they play next. A replay is out of the question as every second game has contraversial refereeing decisions and we would end up with calls for replaying half the games in the championship. bryanadams (Kildare) - Posts: 733 - 12/07/2010 14:10:24 705204 Link 0 |
OMG There is plenty of ABM supporters out there. If the boot was on the other foot this was not be getting as many posts. Down through the years many a good team lost games on bad decisions. I think Louth should just get over it. TRUE_GREEN (Meath) - Posts: 7 - 12/07/2010 14:11:12 705208 Link 0 |

I think the hooligan wannabe's from Louth will have done their county no favours. If they all just stayed in their seat I think people would be looking more favourable on giving a replay. In a way, not giving a replay would be a fitting punishment aswell as banning the knuckle draggers from ever attending a game again (if that's even possible). bangbang (Dublin) - Posts: 113 - 12/07/2010 14:20:43 705243 Link 0 |
Joe Sheridan didn't exactly crown himself in glory yesterday either after the goal when indicating to the umpire to put the flag up when the referee went to speak to the umpire. The actions of the Louth supporters was disgraceful and should lead to them being thrown out of the championship altogether. We don't need this type of thuggery in 2010. As for the talk about Louth deserving a replay. SUCH NONSENSE! THere are wrong decisions in every game and more than a fair few that went against Meath yesterday. If it hadnt been the last action of the game there would hardly be a word about it this morning. Do the decent thing Louth - get over it and move on... With regard to the booing yesterday it was rotten to hear and in fairness, however when I think back on yesterday it was actually the Meath crowd on the hill that started it first not realising that they were seriously out numbered supporter wise so when large sections of the Louth fans returned the favour it was more obvious. Any Meath man that is proud of that result needs to read T Giles comments... Meath were shown up for what they are... AVERAGE jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20600 - 12/07/2010 14:45:04 705323 Link 0 |
Not the first time Meath have come out on the right side of a controversy. Noticed before the Dubs match that a number of Meath posters were complaining about the choice of ref for that match... most other counties posters would wait until he had messed up on the day, but a bit like Meath's players on the pitch their supporters believe in getting in first. I must admit, it seems to work for them... Meath have benefitted from some outrageous calls over the last 20 years. A bit of pressure before a match is worth far more than any amount of jostling after it. I feel sorry for Louth, and the ref (though he really should have consulted his umpires) and for the Meath players who didn't set out to cheat Louth, they just got a very lucky break. I hope Louth can bounce back, though I'd be surprised if it's in replay... most Meath suporters I know wouldn't be in favour of it, so I doubt their country board offlcials will be any more facilitating.
