Trial by Hogan Stand:

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Dear All,

especially the Alan Hansen/Alan shearer wannabees.

What is is with this "trial by Hogan stand?" One day it is "O'Se pulled someones shirt....ban him for life" the next day it is Galvin, or Ricey, or anyone.

At this rate what are we going to do in September as EVERYONE will be suspended and we will have no finals.

We have referees and I have seen two of the worst in the last few weeks, but let them ref the games for better or worse.

All of this trial by TV, technology and referrals to third umpires and such is all about MONEY, not SPORT.

The GAA would be well advised not to go down that route unless you want to revive the "pay for play" debate.

This is a GAA forum where ye can talk about any bad incident. We dont make the decisions the CCCC do everybody knows that.

Was this not the point Mickey Harte made during the league when a number of Tyrone players were suspended after a league game with Derry I think? Retrospective TV punishment can be seen as unfair when not all games are televised and therefore not all incidents are highlighted.

I agree, this has to stop. They should just let it go. Unless someone is serious injured then lets just move on and forget about it. What galvin did was stupid but no one was hurt. Its no big deal!!! same with TO'S

Yeah, I'd say the CCCCCCCCCCC are glued to this forum. I can see them during the appeals process. "May I point the defendant in the direction of the "Are we being unfair to Paul Galvin? " thread on www.hoganstand"....

Its an open forum&the natural inclination of people is to focus on the negatives rather than the positives,i for one look back on the weekend as one of 2 class games of football, players like Johnny Doyle,Paddy Cunningham,Padraic Joyce,Mark Brehony,John Galvin,Declan Sullivan,Gooch Cooper putting on masterclasses of football,a daunting (for the rest of Ireland) performance by Kilkenny against Galway&Longford beating a very good Kildare side in the Leinster Minor Semi Final.

This is absolutely crazy. With blanket coverage of big GAA matches nowadays any misbehaviour in a big match is going to be highlighted. The obvious lesson for a player is, therefore DONT BREAK THE RULES!!! Its is nonsense to suggest that a TV pundit should ignore a incident in a game because it will cause controversy. Thats what they are there for. Likewise, it is stupid to suggest that the CCCC should ignore the evidence presented to them by video replay just because the ref has missed it though human error. If you do the crime, do the time. It does not matter how you get caught. If you claw someones face or stamp on them, you deserve to be punished. It is not Colm O Rourke or Anthony Tohills fault. Man up and stop crying.

Yes HOO_RAH and what if any of these players get their head knocked off when they are putting on a masterclasses of football. Kelly was seen as one of the main men on the Limerick team and so O'Se was going to do his best to stop him putting on a masterclasses of football.

If the Gooch had his head knocked off Kerry supporters rightly so would be jumping up and down trying to get whoever banned.

Totally agree with Maradonna and gaelplatt, if players don't want to get suspended, thy shouldn't break the rules.

I think all this could easily be stopped.

GAA could & should use a video referee, like rugby. The danger is that some incidents look way worse when slowed down.

A few Limerick people have mentioned Tomas O'Se after Sunday, but look the reaction has not been hysterical. He was invovled in 3 rough incidents, but got away with them. I think any anger is directed at the officials, moreso than the player. And I haven't seen any Limerick people slagging off Kerry as a team, I think we all know they have this savage winning mentality, that like the Kilkenny hurlers, people should aspire to, not criticise. It's just difficult ot accept any player be invovled in 3 yellow card offences yet escape all 3. We lost a game of football and nobody is injured as far as I know.

If O'Se is to be banned then let him be banned based on what he did in the Munster final but let there be no witch hunt on him or Kerry to see him be banned for the rest of the year or anything like that. At the end of the day the bloke is a class footballer so hopefully we will see his football skills more than anything else this summer.

I agree too. What frustrated Kerry fans should ask themselves is: "Why are Colm Cooper, Declan O'Sullivan and several other Kerry players not being targeted by the Sunday Game?"

not a bad idea and would take pressure off the referee to get everything 100% correct.

Good idea. A citing commission made up of ex-players, ex-managers, ex-referees. All people with a knowledge of the game.
