The lesser spotted Tyrone "real" supporter pre 2003 is a rare breed, and featured in a programme made by David Attenborough once. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 14/06/2010 19:56:35 677359 Link 0 |
Have no problems with Tyrone posters, there may be some who are overly bias but sure we all have someone like that. Have a lot of respect for some of the Tyrone players and the skill they demonstrate, especially Stephen O Niell and Cavanagh. Micky Harte is another story; have great respect for the man, how he brought the Tyrone football to the front from minors up to the seniors-deserves the credit he gets. kerrykerry (Kerry) - Posts: 1779 - 14/06/2010 20:16:25 677388 Link 0 |

Sure Tyrone would just have been also rans had the GAA didn't introduce the backdoor system. When was the last time a provincial champion actually won Sam? Mourneman5stars (Down) - Posts: 102 - 15/06/2010 10:43:25 677744 Link 0 |
Similar to Patrique, i would say it is probably the nouveau riche Tyrone fans, i.e. those who have jumped on the bandwagon since 2003, that are those that give the county's support a bad name, rather than the genuine fans who have followed the county before the A-I successes. I love watching Tyrone play and i would travel to see them even if they weren't playing my native Mayo. They bring a serious hunger and passion to their game and it's savage stuff to watch. I met a tyrone panalist in Sligo a few weeks ago before Mayo bowed out of the Connaght championship. We had a great football conversation and a good laugh too before the match. When it was over i was gutted and he came over to me afterwards to chat about what happened. A gentleman and a great ambassador for Tyrone football. exiledinkildare (Mayo) - Posts: 47 - 16/06/2010 12:55:22 679009 Link 0 |
its all down to envy.tryone a county who had never won the AI came and won 3 in a short space of time. people are jealous, pure and simple. yes they became cocky and what some may call arrogant but any other county would do the same other than kerry perhaps. its that old irish cliche, people support you when your on the up, but once your up there they like nothing better than to bring you down a peg or two. and also a little note on tyrones bandwagon supporters!!!i think this point is way overstated. tyrones bangwagon supporters are the same breed as any other counties. more follow when they do well rather than when they arnt doing so well...simple as.and bandwagon supporters bring alot to the GAA, they actually make the championship into the exciting spectacle that it is...i would really pity the all ireland finalists that have only the 10,000 hard core fans that each county usually has in attendance to watch them. seany16 (Dublin) - Posts: 1663 - 16/06/2010 14:55:56 679186 Link 0 |
They are mostly fine GAA people who now have a bit of a swagger but sure they have earned it. Tyrone have really fired up the Championship these past 5 or 6 years and without them it would be a Kerry shoe in every year, no disrespect to the Kingdom. Some of their younger immature posters like pomeroy do them no favours but he's still wet behind the ears and is having the time of his life keeping hard working people awake in the Holyland. He will one day too become a responsible citizen. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9819 - 16/06/2010 15:12:33 679212 Link 0 |
Have a healthy respect for Tyrone as a football county and as a supporter base. Had good, friendly banter with Tyrone supporters before, during and after last year's Semi-final. They were very genuine and gracious in defeat which is not something I could say about other sets of supporters I have met. Have also attended other games involving Tyrone (Meath, Kildare) and they sure know how to get behind their county. As for events on the field, if the Cork football team had the same self-belief as their Tyrone counterparts then we would be unstoppable. eviemonkey (Cork) - Posts: 308 - 16/06/2010 15:14:56 679215 Link 0 |

I think of you pomeroy as the HS vevezula. You are always in the background, are annoying if you really think about it but are best ignored. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9819 - 16/06/2010 15:34:29 679246 Link 0 |
