The AVIVA stadium

I have to say it's a beautiful looking thing....

But still only holds 50,000.. and that's where it really counts! It's about supporters bums on seats!

Who cares if the chair vibrates and keeps your drink cold!

Its on the Southside and away from the 'bogballers' Thats what they care about. No longer will they have to get a shuttle bus from the Merrion Inn and Paddy Cullens and brave the dangers of Drumcondra.

Its fairly good, but not great. Its a pitty we couldnt build a really magnificient stadium that we could be proud of, it looks a bit of a mess. Also Its the second most expensive stadium in europe and only has 50000 seats! Only in Ireland could that happen!

3 sides of the stadium are nice

However, the North Terrace\Havelock sq end is a joke. Has anyone seen it?. Its just one little block of seats deep

its interesting to note that semple stadium is bigger and the gaelic grounds in limerick is the same size!
i definitely think it was a bad move by the FAI and IRFU to not make it bigger. realistically international stadiums should be at least 70,000+ IMO

Looks very nice, but as a Northerner any thing would look lovely compared to the **** stadia that we have to put up with, yes? know? maybe? that what the Minster for sport says when ask if the is likely to be a National Stadium in the North.

It bears an`uncanny resemblance to a bedpan.

Any amateur psychologists know what Freud would classify the designers thoughts as?

thats with standing. add in seats and both hold less than the new lansdowne road.

but anyway the new lansdowne road is a joke. if they couldnt build a 70000+ seater stadium they should have moved location. but typical FAI

The Bertie Bowl would have cost a lot less... and held a lot more!

That really is a missed opportunity, I mean the Welsh "National" stadium holds 70/80K, is state of the art and cost significantly less than the Aviva. On a six nations weekend they could almost double that capacity such is the demand for tickets, likewise for a big WC/Euro qualifier, what were they thinking of?

Guys, I think you need to use a little common sense here. We are Ireland, not some large country in Europe. How many countries of our size and population can say they have a soccer/rugby stadium of 50,000. Wales may have done it with an 75k stadium but they want to move out as it is too expensive to run except the few days a year it is full. Half of the time it is empty. Also the capacity of the old Landsdowne was 36,000 all seated for soccer or 48,000 for rugby (25,000 standing on terraces). In fairness a seating capacity jump from 36k to 50k is a big increase, nearly 40%.

We have become used to seeing games in Croke Park in excess of 80k. This was unattainable for the FAI/IRFU. It was short term and they now need to go back to their own stadium with their own capacity. Croker is a freak, we really shouldn't have a stadium that size in Ireland. When I tell foreigners that we have an 80k plus stadium for an amateur game, they don't believe it. FAI and IRFU should not have to compete with this.

Also, when the plans were announced in 2004, no one complained as it made logical sense, a 40% capacity jump. We have become too used to Croker.

Do I wish it was different, Yes I do, but look at it with sense and logic and see could they have done it any differently. Probably not. The fact that we now have a top grade sports stadium for soccer/rugby should be praised, not ridiculed.
