Oh and if really want to annoy FAI people remind them that there are very few county finals in the country that don't get bigger crowds than the FAI Cup final :-)

Unfair comparison, the real comparison would be between inter county and rovers or boes. As we all know, there is no comparison. Also compare the attendences for the all ireland final and that for the FAI cup final.

If that is not like with like, what is the soccer equivalent of the All-Ireland Final?

Do Castlebar Celtic represent the exact same area and population as Castlebar Mitchells? Do they have the same competition for support?

Yes, the exact same area and population. In fact, Celtic as a club had to survive up against Mitchells and their lot ***** acting in the early days, but that is a different story.

There is no soccer evuivalent to an All Ireland final. 2 different sports, 2 different setups. The League system is bigger in soccer.

I'm not arguing what's a more popular sport (GAA or Irish soccer). I put across the point that what was said at the start didn't "tell the full story"

624724 In the interests of your own sanity it would probably be better not to read anything on the 11aside site

because other sports are BAD?

Not at all young man, indeed i played and still support a variety of sports. I was referring to the garbage posted on the site. settle down a bit.

I was arguing on elevenaside that the senior club championship matches in many counties attract larger crowds than the countie's respective soccer team.

I have noticed nearly all your posts i read have been some sort of an attempt at being a smart ass, trying to come across as if you know a lot more than everyone else. I personally think you have little substance in your posts to try to justify such characteristics.

nobody could accuse you of being judgemental. your post says a lot more about you than it does about me, it makes you seem insecure

but having said all that you are entitled to your opinion even if your last sentence makes no sense what so ever.

But Hey!

Maybe i didn't explain my thoughts on your posts well enough, ill try again. I think you try to make it evident in your posts that you have a greater knowledge than anyone else, you constantly disregard other posters by making a mockery of their post like you have just attempted with me by reference to my alleged insecurities.

I have been to a few cross rangers games and they always get a good healthy crowd. Maybe 200 upwards which isn't bad for a club match.

What i wil say about GAA crowds compared to Football crowds is the lack of trouble at GAA games. I remember been at a Drogheda United V Shamrock Rovers game in Tolka park a few years back and there was over a 100 guards on duty for an approx crowd of 2000. How many are on duty AI final day?, roughly the same without any trouble. That's what make the GAA so special. We can mingle and banter with other fans at a game safe in the knowledge it's all in good jest.

Try putting 4 sets of soccer fans in the one stand. I dont fancy the chance.

Viva la GAA

You can't compare a club like drogheda which is the only club for half the county and is in a town of 40'000 people to philipstown which is just a country area with absolutely no townland not even a shop and the population is probably 200-300. Thses soccer teams should be compared to county teams and when you do this the county teams easily win out.

The proper comparison would be between your local GAA club and your local Junior soccer club.
