Louth stadium controversy

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Drogheda was half full for the Tyrone game because the GAA made it an all ticket and limited capacity to 4'500, there was war over it because a lot of genuine fans didn't get tickets, i remember there was a lot of fighting at the gate that day. We have waited long enough for a stadium to accept a shared ground with the smallest capacity in the country, we need our own stadium that could host a championship game even if it is against Meath. Longford struggled to get the home advantage against Dublin a few year back because their 14'000 capacity was seen as being to small so what chance would we have of playing any decent team at home.

Was talking about a match not a stadium in that particular post withualltheway. Similarly I could ask you what slagging off Eamon Mc Eneaney has to do with building a stadium.

Well I suppose that just means we were both wrong. Always a first time for everything. I mean me being wrong of course. You being wrong on the other hand withualltheway........ Lets just say we should leave well enough alone on that one. Happy Easter.

Maybe this is what happens when the county board try to discuss it.

Why would the G.A.A. part-fund a stadium that they would never own ? I am not aware of this ever happening before and believe that they would not go for it. The G.A.A. have always strived to own their grounds and that is what makes this amateur organisation unique. Can't see this ever happening !!

This whole stadium thing is a real pain in the rear end now.

The truth of the matter is that with our current "county grounds" in drogheda we are the laughing stock of the country.
Sean Cavanagh remarked it was the worst "facility" he ever played in his county career.
Also not alone are the stands an embarrasment, the playing surface is also well below par.
Eamon Mc (and i presume Fitzer) wanted to move games from there because of the pitch (and not a dundalk/drogheda divide as some suggest)

So its clear we need to do something
And IMO Navan should be made our "home venue" for championship games and inniskeen used for league games.
While also the Rats have to give owerership to the county board so Croke Park will support its developmemnt. As the Cavan boyo suggested above.

the gaa do own it, they will get it back. just like renting a house, there is only so much work you will do on it yourself as you have to hand it back at the end. its up to the landlord to maintain and spend the hard cash on it because he owns it

drogheda20,

It was the D.K.I.T. proposal if there is one i was talking about. The G.A.A. would not go for that imo. !! Drogheda is a different matter !!

"Heard from a reliable source that there is a firm option on the table for a Brand New Stadium for Louth, 8,000 to 10,000 seater at the DKIT. Half funded by College other half from GAA. Nothing to be paid by Louth County board. Stadium would be available to all sports but would be rented at half price to Louth county teams. Template for stadium is show in link below."

"Is it just me or is this a no-brainer for the county board? Heard they are still persevering with ORaghallaighs upgrade, which will have to be paid for by other clubs in Louth, and will only have 1/4 the capacity."

,

Croke Park will not be providing any funding for any such stadium where soccer is to be played. Anybody who thinks otherwise is away with the fairies. Why would anyone think that Croke Park would be prepared to spend money on this type of project when it clearly wont put money into the development of the Gaelic Grounds in Drogheda a venue which currently plays home to a Gaelic Athletic Club ie. The O'Raghallaighs. Furthermore angle grinder it is not true that other clubs in Louth would have to fund any future development of the pitch Drogheda.

What controversy? As I have stated here many, many times there will be no new stadium. There is no money available in the county or from Croke park. When money was available there was no urgency at county board level to make it happen so that opportunity has been lost. Drogheda has the county grounds and these grounds are more than capable of hosting Louths league Div 3 or Div 4 games in the future.

DKIT should focus on developing football in the college before they dream up stadiums that will never happen.

Pie in the Sky.
Will never be built.
Seems like lazy journalism on Hoganstands behalf, a major lack of sources to the article.
DKIT will build it, GAA will own it yet the Louth CB know nothing about it?

i know a lot of underlying problems with rats and county ground but guarantee you these would have been long ago sorted out if the gaelic grounds were in dundalk there is a large section of north louth gaa who dont want grounds in drogheda thats a fact and there not too bothered about sorting out the county ground in drogheda
