Calling on all Galway Football Fans

Im closer to Pearse but would prefer if we played in Tuam. I know im not the only one, I know loads of fans who have been turned off by Pearse. Id actually prefer if all our games were in hyde!

"mowtastic - try using spell check good lad"- im really sorry nerd.

Move back to Tuam???

What a horrid place that was.... Pearse is miles ahead of it.

Galway supporters need to sit down and look at themselves. 8,000 at a Conn Semi Final and less than half were Galway fans. Somethings very wrong...

Yes, a shocking turnout last Sunday even if the attitude was "its only Leitrim." It reminded me of the bad old days before John O'Mahony came along when there would be less than 7,000 in Tuam Stadium for games against Leitrim. The reality is that we were outnumbered by supporters from two of the country's least populus counties- Leitrim and Roscommon. If we get to an All Ireland then all these so called supporters whings about not having enough tickets!!!

And time to put the Tuam Stadium debate to bed. Its an old, shambles of a place that should be developed into a 10,000-all seater stadium with flood lights. We could therefore play league games there on Saturday nights and it would be more than adequate to host county finals etc.

I like Pearse Stadium but its in an awful location for us travelling from east Galway. Leave early in the morning, have a beer (or a coke if u happen to drive)after the game and then go home after the traffic has moved on.

That's the sensible thing to do. After the game go into Salthill and have a drink for an hour (non-alcoholic if you're driving) or bring the kids to McDonald's. Leave the traffic to tail off for a bit and then drive home.

Tuam is not fit for championhsip football in it's current state. It's barely fit for FBD football so Galway are going to be playing in Pearse for a fair few years more yet.

Bring the kids to Supermacs, not McDonalds.

Well I wouldn't bring them to either but bring them somewhere where they will stay quiet for an hour and they can't talk if they have their mouths full.

Alfie
I do agree, it is a shame when so few show up to home games.

But then it is also a shame that the county board insist on making the bulk of Galway football fans, mostly from North Galway (with the honourable exception of our Connemara brothers) drive into Galway to get to a stadium that has become practically inaccessible on game day. Have you tried driving on Bishop O'Donnell road to get over to the stadium? And forget about parking 2 miles away if you are going with your 70 year old father. Not to mention most of us have to travel that bloody N17 every day of the week to get to work; what makes you think we want to do it on our day off!!

Turn Pearse Stadium into what it is best suited for: The national turf cutting championship. I went to secondary in Collaiste Einde up the road, and we used to call the pitch beside Pearse 'The Swamp'. We weren't being smart (goes without saying; we were in Enda's!) we were simply stating the truth. And Pearse is no better.

Let the football come home to Tuam. And the Hurling to Ballinasloe. And let soccer, mud wrestling and synchronized swimming use Pearse Stadium!

Galway city has a native population of 72 000 (not counting tourists, students and visiting English Stag Nights). Tuam has a population of 6000.
And some joker said the low turn out was because of the North Galway "prawn sandwich" brigade (whatever the hell that is. Must be a Galway city thing) didn't show up? And where were the city dwellers? Over at Terryland chanting for United most likely...

It's funny that so many Galway fans complain about getting to Pearse stadium, when larger numbers of Leitrim and Roscommon supporters managed to get there, and managed to return home safely, by all accounts! Excuses, excuses...

If this sudden support for Tuam Stadium is real it is the County Board that should be blasted because it is them that must fund the re furbishment of Tuam Stadium but they are stalling because they cant admit that Pearse Stadium is a Failure.I travel all over Ireland to support Galway including Pearse Stadium but it is the worst Stadium for atmosphere in Ireland. It is in no fit state to host inter county matches at present and I wonder why the County Board continually ignore the Tuam Stadium committee when they try to get the re furbishment of the ground. Tuam has planning permission for floodlighting Pearse Stadium dont and wont get planning permission so why are the County Board not applying for the funding from Croke Park which is available.ITS SIMPLE THE COUNTY BOARD HAVE NO INTEREST IN TUAM STADIUM because they know they made a mistake in developing Pearse Stadium.I say bombard the County Board with your e mails and calls are else all the money will go to funding Loughgeorge and the new Hurling facilities in Athenry

No need to send the hurling fans back to Ballinasloe. Unlike their brethern from north Galway the hurling fans from the south of the county seem to have no problem in going to Pearse Stadium. That's why Galway county hurling finals at Pearse often get crowds of 15,000 while Galway county football finals get crowds of 5,000 at the same venue.

Galway fans are right to stay away from Salthill in my Opinion. It is only when the County Board feel it in their pockets that they will return the big games to Tuam. As a Mayo supporter close to the boarder I would have gone to the game myself, as would many of my neigbours, if it were in Tuam. It is eassier for Supporters from north galway to get to Castlebar than Salthill.

20 good reasons why I didn't go to Pearse Stadium last Sunday 1. Sea salt ruining the paintwork on my Sean Hynes 08 Mazda car 2. Never heard of Leitrim until Larry Cunningham, God be good to him, started singing about them. It's a vicious circle. Never heard of Larry Cunningham until he started singing about Leitrim. 3 Too many yuppies sitting out in their front gardens on such roads as Dr. Mannix, Rockbarton, Threadneedle Rd and other G4 areas and they wouldn't bid you the hour of the day or even know there was a Connacht championship match going on. 4. ?30 to get into that lean-to they call a stand 5. The danger of meeting Marty Morrissey 6. Trying to avoid the Aldi and Lidl Sunday bargain hunters 7. The Air show and trying to avoid the Pro and Anti Lisbon luadramahns. 8. Trying to negotiate any of the 27 roundabouts that one encounters when travelling from the football heartland of North Galway. 9. The blustery wind coming in from the Aran Islands. It's freezing cold back in that God-forsaken place even the warmest day of summer 10. No atmosphere. Only 7000 yahoos showed up for this fiasco, tis time now that we copped on and stop flogging this dead horse that is Pearse Stadium. 11. Too many clod hoppers from the side behind playing for Galway 12. Sand blowing in from the beach. It would remind you of the bloody Sahara desert. 13. No matter where you leave the car, you can never find your way back. 14. If you ask anyone for directions, they are unable to help as none of them are locals. Does anybody at all come from Salthill? 15. Exorbitent prices for drink. ?5.50 for a plastic caneen of Heineken. Tis robbery without violence. City of culture, how are you? 16. A crowd of free loaders standing around the "Arus" scoffing free salad sandwiches. 17. No parking space at all to open the boot and sit on the back bumper to eat a few ham sandwiches and drink my flaskeen of tea. 18. Being accosted by hawkers from Dublin along the prom trying to sell me hoolo hoop rings and "kiss me quick" hats. At least in Tuam, the hawkers were were decent skins. They were local traders like my good friend Scallions Mannion and I always gave him the twist. 19. Fellas touching me for money outside Toffs gambling casino, they must think I'm awful gullible. 20. No nice pub to meet up with ones friends after the match for a few drinks and a bit of a chat. Sure there's the brand new hotels that seem to appear off every roundabout these days out there and they can be as flashy as you like but give me the long bar in Gay Browne's, the Bridge Bar, the Thatch or Cock Bo's any day of the week. The bickering on here is hilarious......all of ye making excuses for your absence last Sunday should be ashamed of yourselves by the way. I travelled from London to the match to support my county (Leitrim) , at considerable personal expense and even though realistically I knew we would not win. That is what the GAA is about....unconditional support. I hope the Galway fans will flock to the Connacht final.......best of luck to ye for the remainder of the championship.

If ye were real fans of Galway Football ye would have got off your backsides and gone to watch them. Tuam is a run down town with no suitable stadium. Pearse Stadium has no atmosphere at football games because ye are to lazy to go a create one. ye are all a bunch of glory day supporters.

I've been saying this for years, we have the worst support in the country, especially for football. Pearse Stadium was redeveloped to promote GAA in the city. On that front I don't know if it's been a success or not, could take a few years for results to show in terms of more players from the city appearing for the county.

Pearse Stadium has in no way contributed to any upsurge in gaelic football in the city but has contributed in a downturn in
the way we now play the game. Its good to hear that ouir senior footballers will be using Tuam Stadium for their Connaght
Final preperation starting this Sunday morning.
Who is to blame for the condition of Tuam Stadium only the County Board who blocked the Stadium committee from getting
lottery funding down through the years by not backing their efforts. When the committee showed some efforts spending a
lot of money preparing plans for a new Stand incorparating new state of the art dressingrooms, warmup rooms etc.
they were shot down and told to downsize the plans.WHY only they have the answers.Pearse Stadium got huge lottery grants
but none for Tuam, WHY, ask the County Board. There is money sitting in the vaults in Croke Park to redevelop Tuam Stadium and Duggan Park Ballinasloe but the County Board are still sitting on their hands and making no efforts for these
Stadiums they are even forcing Tuam Stadium to close in the first phase of their Stand redevelopment ASK THEM WHY.

As a corofiner I grew up playing and going to matches in Tuam and used to love it, still do. It never used to bother me the fact that the dressing rooms were built for a panel of 16 under 12's, the showers were more often than not cold, one dirty jacks per dressing room and having to warm up on gravel out the back of the Town goal. As a supporter the lack of facilities is a disgrace, no hot water is the toilets that were filthy and not to mention the 1.50 per mars bar. If I had my way every Club and inter county championship game would be played there because I never cared about any of the above, but in this day and age you cannot expect practically professional GAA players to put up with it no more that you can expect supporters to fork out 30 quid to share a toilet with a nest of rats, the place is a kip and it doesnt matter whose fault it is, until they build that new stand with dressing rooms and even basic facilities they dont deserve to get another inter county game. And to whoever said that Galway fans dont travel to Pearse because its Pearse is talking through his behind, Galway fans dont travel end of story, its been that way for years, it took me 45 mins to get from Tuam to sitting in the stand last Sunday, hardly a major excursion, get out there and support the team and stop sitting behind your computers whinging about a lack of atmosphere, it might not be great but its a hell of a lot better than the one in your living room
