Was just thinking of some of the games Ive seen the Dubs in over the years, and two that sprung to mind were the games against London in '04 and Westmeath last summer. They stood out as the Dubs won by 27 points in both games. Does anyone know what the biggest ever margin of victory was in a championship match? I also went to KK V offaly in 2005 and remember KK dishing out the mother and father of all hidings! Ballboy (Dublin) - Posts: 88 - 17/02/2010 18:08:20 564713 Link 0 |

Kerry beat Clare 9-21 to 1-6 in the Munster Championship in 1981. Must be close enough to the record win in football. county man (Limerick) - Posts: 1145 - 17/02/2010 19:00:19 564791 Link 0 |

In 1998 or 1999 Cork footballers flogged Waterford in Dungarvan in the Munster championship 3-23 to 0-4 which is 28 points the winning margin. jambread (Cork) - Posts: 307 - 17/02/2010 21:46:04 565049 Link 0 |
From Kilkenny we've been on the good side of a lot of wallopings in hurling and the reverse in football. Puddersthecat (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1692 - 17/02/2010 21:47:09 565050 Link 0 |
Fair enough Fr Ted - we've taken one or two hidings in the not too distant past too! Interesting to see some of the responses, didnt realise that Kerry racked up 9-21 in a munster championship game. As good as they are right now, you just couldnt see that happening again in Munster. Ballboy (Dublin) - Posts: 88 - 18/02/2010 09:01:34 565104 Link 0 |
Dub hurlers have taken some hammerings over the years. Can think of a number of 25/26 point defeats and i'm sure there's worse if I was masochistic enough to delve! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 18/02/2010 09:47:50 565128 Link 0 |
I remember us getting stuffed 3-24 to 3-5 by Galway down in Tuam in 2001, some of our players left the field in tears. Wasn't far off them myself! Tiger (Leitrim) - Posts: 204 - 18/02/2010 10:29:41 565155 Link 0 |
I cant remember the year or the exact score but i remember Galway beating Sligo in a championship match in the old Pearse stadium sometime in the late 80s i think.( I was a young lad at the time). The score i believe was something like 6-19 to 4points.Again if anyone knows the correct score can you let me know as i like to remind my Dad about this game from time to time. galwaybhoy (Galway) - Posts: 83 - 18/02/2010 10:41:19 565165 Link 0 |
Finally a post i can contribute to! i have watched Westmeath get beat up a stick more times than i care to remember, but they are still my team so i would never let them down! it just makes the odd victory that does come our way the more sweeter, like Offaly in Tullamore in 2008!!! Cork gave us quite the trimming last summer in the AI quarter final. Thankfully those kind souls Kerry inflicted a worse whipping on Dublin the next day to take some of the heat off us. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9804 - 18/02/2010 10:56:52 565192 Link 0 |
Armagh gave Donegal a quern beating in Croke on Ulster final day in 04, wasn't that much but it was by about 12 laoch (Antrim) - Posts: 140 - 18/02/2010 11:05:23 565208 Link 0 |
Yeah I remember that game laoch...in patches. I'd downed a bottle of Bucky along with some Armagh gentlemen the morning of the match following a heavy rip the night before. It dulled the pain of the defeat somewhat. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9804 - 18/02/2010 11:30:01 565244 Link 0 |
