Darragh Ó Sé retires

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kerry footballer Darragh Ó Sé has confirmed his retirement from inter-county football.

Ó Sé has been a member of the Kerry squad since 1994, winning six All-Ireland titles and being named an All Star three times.

Speaking on An Saol ó Dheas today on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta, Ó Sé said that he is looking forward to being able to spend more time with his wife Amy and his family.

Ó Sé admitted that it would be difficult to be in the audience for the big matches and not on the field, but was confident that Kerry had a very strong team and that they would continue to do well into the future and wished them all the best.

Best of luck Dara a true legend and a great servant to the game

Superb player, especially to play at the sharp end of the inter-county game for 15 summers. Of all the Kerry losses, i think this may be the toughest to deal with. O'Se was more than just a superb midfielder, i think he brought an almost talismanic / iconic quality to the Kingdom panel.

Good luck Dara - the most imperious midfielder I've seen (Including Jacko). He set the standard for everyone else. I think alot of competing counties will be grateful to not have to outfield/battle him - Niclas Murphy in particular will sleep easier.

'Enough Done - no more to do' - a truly outstanding servant to Kerry football and his timing is as usual perfect - not many exit at the top of their game and he deserved to go out on that note. I'm sure there are plenty of midfielders out there who will be celebrating not having to go toe to toe with him again. Daragh, enjoy your retirement.

Agree wholeheartedly. The term legend is applied very liberally and for the most part incorrectly, but this man is fully deserving of this tag. A giant of a man who brought many great moments. Enjoy the easy life

I've heard that one before....! ;)

Well if he has finally hung up his boots... well then it's the end of a legend.

Future Kerry boss perhaps?

Regardless of what county, I believe, most individuals will respect the service and skill he gave GAA football. On a personal level, I feel he will be sorely missed in Kerry and to me is one of the Kerry GAA legends. Go raith maith agat Darragh.

Dara, thanks for the memories. You are one of the greatest midfielders of all time. You will be sadly missed but the spirit, leadership and ability that you displayed over two decades will undoubtedly have been embedded in your younger teammates and opponents alike. Enjoy your new life and thank you.

Best wishes to Darragh. Will be sorely missed. He gave us many great days.

Had a bad feeling after Paidi's slip up on Seo Spoirt on TG4.

Yep great player. They talk about 'the mark' , well this lad could fairly field a ball. Strong as a butcher's dog with bags of talent. Some boy. Good luck.
