555462 dhorse would you mind explaining what exactly your opposition to a highlights programme showing action from all the NFL games is?

I have absolutely no objection whatsoever, i merely suggested that i doubted if people had an entitlement to such a proramme being shown by RTE

Iano,

He has no problem whatsoever with a highlights programme however he does object to anyone from 'this here wee pravince' expressing an opinion on HIS national broadcaster. I simply made a point that surely the licence payers are entitled to a highlights program based on the numbers either playing or attending gaelic games, see below with the inference that my opinion is irrelevant as i am not from the 'Free State'.

Anybody watching BBC/UTV in laois pays for it via their signal supplier, i live in dublin and pay for it through Chorus, I still reckon your dual citizenship linked to paying a southern TV licence is SPOOF. Dual citizenship is available to a large section of the southern population also.

dhorse in fairness, anyone that lives north of Dunshaughlin receives at least four of the northern channels for free.

Bumpernut is quite entitled to comment on and indeed right when he says that given that RTE is (a) the national station and (b) funded by us through taxes and licence fees it should provide extensive coverage of the number one sport on this island.

After all, they manage to show all the goals from around europe after the feature match on a Champo league matchdays.

Concerning his right to comment as far as I know RTE has an all island mandate in line with government policy (and the organisation of the GAA!) so he is of course entitled to his opinion.

And for those pointing to the TG4 highlights programme - it's unavailable in north east ulster unless you have Sky so its of little use to the GAA community there.

One final point - as the national broadcaster RTE is obliged to provide programming in line with cultures extant here (the GAA is one of the largest cultural organisations) - the advertising concerns must come second - this is why they get the licence fee and TV3 doesn't.

Even so, the fact that football in particular is so widely supported here I can't imagine they would have too much difficulty attracting ads for the breaks contained within such a programme.

Well I was getting about 40 free channels and have no cable or satelite dish. Some class of a digital yoke in the telly.
In a fit of guilt I put my 300 banks shares in an envelope and sent it to Liz care of buck house as payment in kind.

As a licence payer and a follower of Gaelic Games I feel the treatment of the leagues by RTE is nothing short of contemptible. The effort re coverage is minimal just redubbing the matches already covered by TG4. There are only 4 Div 1 contests and the same in Div 2. They dont have a problem covering rugby, I listen to RTE sport on Saturday where I get regular updates on Brive v Perpignan or whatever even sent a reporter to Madrid to cover the Connaught v Mardid (mis)match final score something like 60 - 0. Gaa followers are entitled to at least the same coverage. While there is alot of comment now on the Ire v Italy match and the upcoming Ire. v France clash I have heard nothing on the Dub v Kerry or Mayo v Galway etc encounters. Of course the sending off of Trevor M v Galway was shown on the 6o'Clock News 9 O'clock News and the sports prog while the negative stuff from the Italy game is forgotten. Why the double standards?

Surely you mean marriage Certificate regarding the south.

Will the Dual pilots licence allow you fly 2 planes at the same time

In general i reckon your obcession with collecting 2 of everything is harmless, once it doesn't develop into something more serious like pseudmania or worse still bigamy.

I suppose your gun licence is for a double barrell , of course

I have nothing agin soccer but cant believe how little coverage RTE are giving the GAA at this time of year.

Everton will get more airtime from RTE next weekend than all the football counties in Ireland got today.

Surely there are more people in this country interested in gaelic than in soccer?

I do acknowledge RTE coverage of the championship is very good but give us some league action please!

Yes I agree coverage of the leagues by RTE is pathetic. Their "coverage" is limited to a few over dubbed clips from the TG4 coverage. The clips they showed of the Mayo Tyrone game gave no sense of the actual encounter. They didn't show all the scores and you had Mayo down 2 points one minute and up 2 the next. It was a very entertaining match (I watched the TG4 broadcast) played under difficult conditions and (apart from one incident) played in a very sporting manner which was a credit to themselves and their managers. RTE made sure to show the one negative incident.
There in a nutshell I feel you have the RTE philosophy to Gaelic Games i.e. lets show as little as possible and if we do broadcast and games lets keep it as negative as possible. PS I do think P Gardners theatrics reflected very poorly on the man. PPS Brian Carty on the radio said there was a melee. Brian have a look at your dictionary!!!

Setanta isnt worth a tenner a month. They have nothing else on the rest of the time so it works out at a tenner for a couple of games!
