533799 I would have to say any reality show made by RTE, which gives us the All Ireland Talent Show, Jigs and Reels and what was that one where the boat sank a few years ago, to much merriment from the rest of the world?

Titanic?

Not sure if I posted this before, but I think you all might enjoy this article. And to think I believed the lovely girls competition was a made up show for Fr Ted!!

533524 Radharc , Katherine Lynch , Fair City all totally woefull! In fact , the best Irish program ever was refused by RTE and ended up being made by Channel 4 (Father Ted!)

This is rubbish-Rte was never offered Father Ted,Graham Linehan and Arthur Matthews said this themsleves in an interview last year. They said that it is always said to them by Irish people they meet in the UK.It was drivin them nuts gettin asked by everyone.I would love to know why Irish people think this?I know we love to hammer Rte and rightly so, but makin stuff up is goin a bit far.

Anyone remember the T na G's version of blind date? The key difference was the mammy would ask the questions and pick the date. Seán Bán was better than Cilla though.

_____________

The Angelus? Terrible programme. Just some banging noise for 60seconds with a montage of people doing nothing. It seems it's the exact same every day too, they only change the montage every few months. Bad enough that it's on at 12o'clock, but why do they have to repeat it at 6pm?

I think we are still the only country in Europe to show the Angelus. Even Italy have stopped showing it. There would probably be uproar if it was cancelled!!

Every couple of weeks some crank writes into the newspapers giving out about the broadcast of the angelus and a lengthy debate ensues. I wish theyd just do what I do when programmes that I find offensive like eastenders come on, change the channel or turn the tv off.

Breffni of course you can change the channel (and I do), but as a licence payer I'm not happy that my licence fee is paying for 2minutes of banging noise a day, with 1 of those minutes right before one of the most-watched programmes on TV, a prime advertising slot. I'm not happy that my licence fee is paying for Fair City either, but at least they make some money back from that from the ad breaks.

Adler, I think there is still some obscure channel in Italy that shows the angelus, but RTÉ might be the only state broadcaster that plays it.

Yeah, i never considered the advertising space so it is a fair point but I'd say the angelus will be on rte for as long as there is a market for it. When people stop tuning in for it (i know most are tuning in for the news), rte wont be too long in pulling it.
