The worst Irish television show created?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Alot of talk has taken place on this forum about the relentless rubbish produced by RTE in recent times Katherine Lynch, Republic of the Telly Byrne Ultimatum etc... What do you think was the worst piece of Irish television created? For me, TV3's highlights of 2009 was probably the worst offender, mostly because it officially ranked Lorraine Keane's departure from Exposé ahead of the anniversary of a major Irish cultural institution.

Radharc , Katherine Lynch , Fair City all totally woefull! In fact , the best Irish program ever was refused by RTE and ended up being made by Channel 4 (Father Ted!)

Yeh I hate the way they keep showing repeats of that Angelus show.

There was a comedy show on RTE about 10 years ago - where the whole family had red hair, The Owens lad from cavan (who played the Butcher Boy) was in it.
Can't remember the name - but it was dire.

And if RTE had made it do you think that we would still be talking about it today in such reverential terms? I doubt it some how, it would have ended up in this list as just another pile of RTE poo. This thread might be easier if it asked for the "best" RTE shows, I cont think of any off hand.

"The Fitz" - Brutal!! - a major contender.

There was also "The Cassidys" with Ed Byrne. Do RTE not get it????

There was also a much heralded pilot shown last year or the year before called "twentysomethings" i think and it was shocking too!

brentheredhand , your probably right. RTE will most likely have made a pig's **** out of it (Fr Ted)

To be fair to RTE, Father Ted was not offered to them first . It was always planned to make it with hat-trick productions in England for Channel 4. The head of comedy at the time (maybe still) was Irish.

They may have been reluctant to show it for a while after it was on channel 4 but they didn't pass up the opportunity to make it.

You could list any "comedy" show really.
