I just read about 5 posts on the "Social Welfare Fraud" thread and was horrified. Downright naked racism and National Socialism, . Attacks on IMMIGRANTS from people who will probably visit their immigrant relations in Australia, US of A and England. From a nation who suffered mass emigration due to disastrous economic policies from 1920 to 1960, and is now doing so again. Not to mention the "Famine" in the 19th century. Makes you absolutely ashamed to call yourself Irish.

Well are you saying that we were welcomed in to aussieland us and gb far from it. Up in antrim you might'nt hav it as bad as down here. A lad near my house was beaten up and murdered by members of this foreign national group. Left 3 young kids bereaved of a father for the rest of their lives.

I know this is only a minority of this race but face this fact patrique

I know the incident you are referring to gaamad1996, a terrible crime and those involved should be locked up for life. But the fact that they were eastern European immigrants does not mean that all immigrants act in this way. You even awknowledge this when you say "I know this is only a minority of this race". Is there not a minority of our own race who commit similar henious crimes?

Patrique I agree with you completely on this, the amount of racist, xenophobic, sectarian, bigoted posters on HS is disgusting.

patrique County: Antrim Posts: 5928 503288 I just read about 5 posts on the "Social Welfare Fraud" thread and was horrified. Downright naked racism and National Socialism, . Makes you absolutely ashamed to call yourself Irish. I completely agree. The Polish came here and took the jobs Irish people saw as below them. The amount of Irish people I know that are scabbing off the dole. People who are basically Career Claimers, many with extra and illegal sources of income. If I had one criticsism of the Polish it would be that they did not make a big enough effort to get over the language barrier but that is easier said then done. Who are we to be giving out about foreigners when our best and brightest J1 student routinely have to be peeled off beaches in Bondi, have drunk and swimming/drowning. The Aussies have a programme about us called Bondi Beach Rescue.

patrique I have to disagree with you. Its very easy for people to sit back and shout "Racist" at the first sign of race being mentioned in a discussion. Yes the Irish immigrated in their thousands and now we should accept people coming here. BUT. The Irish were treated like dirt a lot of the time. "No dogs and no Irish" Sound familiar? Also the Irish went and worked, im not saying they should be applauded for this but the simple fact was they had to, there was no social welfare and nothing for them rely on if they couldnt find employment. Have the foreign workers in Ireland suffered these problems to the same extent? No.. And thankfully so, it seems we aren't as hypocritical as you make out. Recent years has seen the introduction of numerous equality acts. Our elected legislature it seems are not racist either. Now we come to the sticky part of the argument. EU law demands that any EU citizen can claim unemployment benefit in any country as long as they are a resident there. A person from Poland (for example) can make more money here on job seekers benefit than they can working in their native country. I dont agree with this at all. Jobs in Ireland are hard enough to come by, yet we may still have EU citizens coming to Ireland to get social welfare because of the extremely high amount they would recieve for an unlimited time. I believe it is a person's own government that should be responsible for providing for them while they cannot find employment. Contrary to the single EU market policy? Possibly.. But i believe a time limit should be imposed.

hard to know whwre to start with this, the J1 student programme is with America not australia, Bondi Beach Rescue is a show about life guards on Bondi (including Sam from home & away) not about the irish, stop bowing your head.
