what are peoples opinions on cross border shopping? Im totally against it and would not shop North of the border as a matter of principle. what chance have shopkeepers this side of the border got especially with the current exchange rate. millhouse (Meath) - Posts: 892 - 30/11/2009 21:43:43 498884 Link 0 |

You cant blame people for doing it. Do people actually think that if the southern shops could buy their stock at the same rate that they wouldnt do it? Give me a break... Is there any difference between people taking their business to the north and companies taking their business to asia? TheMaster (Mayo) - Posts: 16187 - 30/11/2009 22:07:26 498913 Link 0 |
My mother is buyin all me presents in Belfast next Saturday,it's saving her money so I see why not,you only get ripped off to the last in Wexford town Duffy89 (Wexford) - Posts: 3320 - 30/11/2009 22:47:18 498964 Link 0 |
i'm afraid its everyman for himself. If someone can fill there car with a load of shopping at half\third of the price then why wouldnt they? Didn't hear too many complaints when northern folk came south to fill their tank up! Meath_bhoy (Meath) - Posts: 590 - 30/11/2009 22:48:05 498968 Link 0 |

People whop shop in the UK then complain about wage cuts in the public and private sector??? what do they expect? futher sponsor the northern Irish state? is that not Partitionist?. Or will we pander more to the greedy nationalists in the north?. paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 01/12/2009 00:19:58 499086 Link 0 |

My house is less than a mile from the Derry/Donegal border and I always buy my petrol accros the border in Bridgend. It's still margainly cheaper for Northern drivers to buy their fuel in the 26 counties. As for shopping in Newry , Enniskillen , Belfast & Derry etc etc. Why wouldn't people who are getting it hard not drive across the border and make significant savings on their shopping?? Northern people would most likely do the same if the situation was reversed. dubupnorth (Dublin) - Posts: 1897 - 01/12/2009 08:04:34 499142 Link 0 |
People from north of the border come south th Clones, Lifford and Dundalk for petrol and diesel and that doesnt bother people. Why would it? Its good trade for southern filling stations and irish coffers. Cork_boy (Cork) - Posts: 100 - 01/12/2009 09:28:00 499161 Link 0 |

I live in the south but work for a british based organsiations and I am paid in sterling. I try to support lcoal shops here but I have a family to look after so our main foray for food is up to Enniskillen. A neighbour to me hit the nail on the head. When the good times were here businesses didn't think twice about charging big prices for everything and now we are supposed to subsidise them in the lean times. thistle_harps (UK) - Posts: 879 - 01/12/2009 09:35:27 499163 Link 0 |
It was on Joe Duffy last week - a samsung 42" LCD TV was EUR1400 more expensive in the south. Cork_boy (Cork) - Posts: 100 - 01/12/2009 09:43:27 499167 Link 0 |
