With cashel and carrickedmond both moving up to senior and no team moving down to intermediate, who are the favourites for next years intermediate championship? any suggestions?

St Columbas would be clear favourites if they get relegated but was it not 1 up 1 down for the Senior Championship this year or do the Division 2 winners go up to Division 1 as well with Carrickedmond winning that??

The county board want a 16 team senior championship. St Columbas wouldnt have gone down without a big fight anyway. i think carrickedmond are going up as runners up of this years championship

So St. Columbas, Carrickedmond and Cashel will all be senior next year?

Should be good championship so, 4 groups of 4, rather than this years farce

16 teams in the senior championhip HA HA what a joke.

So you don't have to be promoted ...i.e. Carrickedmond and ya can't be relegated i.e Mullinachta.

Sure why not make everyone senior than you'd still have even groups!!

Who comes up with these ideas, I can just imagine it now.
County Board Meeting:"lads Longford football is a mess it can't go any lower".
Then a little voice chirps up from the back..."I have an idea, lets make everyone senior for no reason".

Yeah intermediate isnt very competitive as is the same teams get to the quarter finals every year its gonna be shockin this year. easier to win it though wit less competion

With Only 8 intermediate teams is it any suprise the sames teams make quarter finals every year ...like duh!

They'll be a new team in town this year the Slashers second string..yup out of that!

And have the same teams not being making the semi finals of senior for the last few year with a one or two exceptions here and there. The senior championship is hardly competitive. Slashers, Clonguish, Dromard, Ballymahon, Abbeylara and Colmcille after that theres a big gap. In fact theres a big game between Slashers and other 5 teams for that matter.

Yeah the eight intermediate teams always make the quarter finals. none of the senior teams second string intermediate teams ever do i hardly see the point in having them in the championship at all. let them all play junior.

funny how slashers only got to the semi's once in the last two years

And we all know which side of that gap Slashers are on.

How did that Senior/Intermediate double that you were going on about earlier in the year turn out for ye?

Wait till next year, this year turned out bad as we'd lads away and loads of injuries.

Well would it not make since that with 8 intermediate teams they'd be expected to make the quarter finals ahead of second string teams. Sure most senior teams are only intermediate standard and its there second strings taking part in intermediate championship.

yea i know.the same 8 teams make it every year thats why its not competitive and obviously their expected to beat the 2nd string teams and always do.

slashers have no chance man im sorry.

Well heres my proposal so relegate all the intermediate teams to junior. Reglegate 8 senior teams to intermediate and then have 8 senior teams left.

Now everything is even. Have two groups of 4 with top two going into semi final.

Put all the second string teams in an intermediate b and junior b championship. Sure apart from our second string there not any good anyway as you've rightly said.

You could decide who'll play in the various championships by league standing. It won't be too hard as I hear theres only two divisions next year.

Funnily enough thats actually not a bad idea seeing as there are really two tiers in senior at the moment. not sure if i fancy playin junior though seeing as my club happens to be intermediate at the moment

What your team ya must be fairable confident of winning it considering you said it'd be easier to win it in an earlier post?

I'd fancy Kenagh or Killashee to win it myself if Carrickedmond go up.

Id say we'll have a very good shot if we get it together even if carrickedmond stay down cause we seen what cashel did to them in the intermediate final im not sure their fit for senior. but its very open if ya look at the division two table cashel and carrickedmond wer out in front but the other five teams kenagh, killashee, ballymore, legan and grattens theres not much between them if cashel and carrick are up it will be the most open championship for years

Can second teams of Senior clubs play in the intermediate in 2010, I am thinking of Killoe, Dromard etc.. ?

They can but they don't have to so I'd say most senior teams will enter there strongest team in the junior and maybe a third string in the intermediate.

This championship will be far more competitive than the senior. there is not much between the teams. I think that grattans could be the team to watch out for. they have always been in the 1/4, semi for the past number of years. they lost a number of key players at the begging of last year but seem to have bounced back to be a stronger side. they have also made a few interesting a additions to the squad. former player Donal Kane has taken over, first time in a number of years they have a proper manager in place.

kilashee will also be very competitve. i'm sure that peter mc loughlin will have them highly tuned come championship time.
