Im from loughrea, was at the match, have to hand it to port they are a class above any club team around and they are a team that should be admired because they are unbelievable role models for kids that want to see the game of hurling played simple and effective. All the best in the All ireland championship! gaabeo111 (Galway) - Posts: 97 - 15/11/2009 17:28:29 484262 Link 0 |
Agreed GAABEO a masterclass.It was over in 10 minutes.It'll be some game between themselves and Ballyhale/Newtownshandrum on St.Patrick's Day. Stuckinthepast (Galway) - Posts: 472 - 15/11/2009 17:55:11 484289 Link 0 |
Was at the final. Why are all the other clubs fighting and appealing over matches when at the end of the day they are only going to meet Portumna and get a trimming. It was over after 15mins. Portumna were as good as they were v Kinvara in 07. They were not as awesome as v Ballyhale last year but they are the best club side in the history of the club hurling should they win the club tital in 2010 ( Newtown are the only team to have a chance of stopping them). Damien Hayes got the best hat trick I have ever seen and their half backs were super. "Joe show" had very little to do which makes the win all the more impessive. That was as good as Loughrea are. Vinny Maher was so bad at no 6 it had to be seen to be believed. He was also a bold boy along with a few more of his team mates but Portumna stayed hurling. Not surprsingly a poor crowd for a good paring on paper. The going ons over the last while and late date did not help. dpw (Galway) - Posts: 104 - 15/11/2009 19:02:17 484331 Link 0 |

The standard of club hurling in galway is as poor as it ever was take out Portumna what have you got Mullagh Loughrea Gort they pick of them wouldent beat Portumna C Helebert hung out to dry by Mullagh for what it would have been a cricket score against Mullagh at least loughrea can foul all day and keep the margin down to 20 points tevez (Galway) - Posts: 29 - 15/11/2009 20:58:48 484435 Link 0 |

Great game, frightening intensity shown by Portumna players who have won it all at club level.Louhgrea look completely out of there depth which was surprising. One or two of there players were a little naughty off the ball, makes you wonder why we bother with linesmen and umpires when they seem incapable of assisting the referee. You know, down my neck of the woods in 2007 we were very embarrased over the trouncing Port gave us, but as time has moved on the hurt is almost gone, and this was very evident today in the demolition job of Loughrea. I mean Portumna are so far ahead that it is becoming a They and us competition. seasider (Galway) - Posts: 167 - 15/11/2009 21:56:06 484505 Link 0 |

Sure we all felt sorry for Kinvara in '07! It was at the time quite a hammering. But you know as time passes and seeing what they have done yesterday to Loughrea (probably second best team in county in past five years), what they did to Ballyhale and De la Salle last year, i'm thinking ye did very well to restrict them on the day i think to 18 scores! Fair play to them they are incredible to watch and best of luck to them on rest of campaign to St. Patricks day. Would love to see them do the 3 in a row. theweeman (Galway) - Posts: 144 - 16/11/2009 07:50:23 484686 Link 0 |

MY PLAYER RATINGS 2009 COUNTY FINAL tevez (Galway) - Posts: 29 - 17/11/2009 11:21:37 485918 Link 0 |
Tevez you have very high standards, you have to give the players on the Port side more credit, scoring 5-19 in a county final and only conceding 1.12 cant be down to only a few players as per your ratings, the work rate of Leo Smyth, A Smyth and N Hayes and M Dolphin lead to those scores and the stopping of Loughrea getting in to a rhythm, Loughrea are a tough defensive team and to tear them apart shows a full team operating to an extremely high level of intensity, Loughrea are not a bad side(second best side in the County over the past five years) but were made to look so by a highly efficient team effort Trucker1 (Galway) - Posts: 419 - 17/11/2009 12:21:46 485990 Link 0 |
What did Morgan do wrong to get a 4?Two goalies wouldnt have saved some of those shots and he made a great save from Dolphin and has a good puck out. As for giving Leo Smith 4?!He and Andy Smith worked like dogs in that game to make sure any Loughrea lad who got on the ball had an awful job to get it away.
