That is a fact Galway. All you have to do is read their coverage during the year to see how much is LEFT OUT.

Has the Top 25 for each code been announced at this stage? If so, does anyone fancy listing them?

Independent website only has 125-26 on it, and would be interesting to see who the Top 25 were.

Thanks.....TC

Liston in the top 20 and ahead of Cooper. Liston may have won a bag of medals but can anyone honestly say that he was one of the top 20 players of all time. He wouldn't even make top 20 twenty Kerry players, or anywhere near it

Shefflin is the greatest hurler of all time. People saying Ring, etc were far greater is nonsense. Game has improved so much since then. Dont liek comparing generations but think that is the case.

How much have people seen really of Christy Ring? If you were to youtube some of the present stars and condense their palying into 10 minutes you could make them out to be Ringesque.

A pointless exercise as its all about opinions. Ring was the best player of his time. Doyle was the best player of his time. Shefflin is the best player of his time. You can't compare the three. Many old stars would never survive today and many of the current stars would never have survived in the old days.
Just enjoy the great players we have today.

joe cooney is in at no. 12

However no place for ciaran carey in the entire 125 is a joke, he was far better than many on that list

john fenton - third best cork hurler of all-time, seems very dubious

I agree with Shefflin at no. 1, he is an unreal player

I've seen Ring play and have also seen Shefflin. Two great hurlers, but I think Ring was better. By the way, I also think D J Carey was better than Shefflin.

Most of these lists just like the All Stars are a joke. Ogormanmahon I agree totally with you re Ring, Carey and Sheflin.

Christy Ring was the first "professional" player, in that the only thing in his life was hurling.

19 Railway cup medals, winning when in his forties, when the Railway Cup was the 2nd biggest trophy going, says it all.

I have been watching from 1962, and the best I saw was DJ.

I havent seen ring play but i'd say if you were to watch this year's AI final and then watch, say the 1990 final (just for instance). The game has improved and speed of the game is gone up so much in those intervening years that the 1990 final would look like a bad junior B match. Although i do agree with pudders that you cant compare different generations.

Where is the list of top 25 posted? can someone list them on this site for viewing.

I agree its very difficult to compare different hurlers for different era's. would find it hard to imagine some of the old greats living with the pace of the modern game and likewise if alot of the modern hurlers were to play in the earlier games in 50's, 60's even 80's i don't think they'd be able to cope to well.
