Right, briquettes are manufactured in a factory , from turf, i think bord na mona are the only ones doing it, everybody else saves turf, when we say saved in relation to turf it means getting it dried and brought home and put in a shed, as opposed to getting it to read the bible or put it in the post office.
think potatoes and chips, potatoes grow in the ground and are harvested, however if you get chips they will have been made like that in a factory or by your dear mother in the scullery, They rarely if ever occur naturally. same with bales of briquettes.

The only other turf i'm familiar with is the ground that the horses round around on, the loyalroyal or rhodejim might be able to help you on this one.

Dhorse

Do you handcut (footcut) the turf or is it cut by machine
Have'nt been on a bog for about 15 years - but remember that there was a lot of debate about the environmental impact of machines.

Only Bin turf allowed this year. A disgrace if you ask me.. Its a traditional Irish fuel been used for hundreds of years. I'll be out with my slean cutting behind a ditch and Bord na Mona can go and jump..

machine, cant see many going back to the slean. it will be stopped pretty soon anyway.

i reckon myself theres more heat generated turning , bagging etc than burning it
