473174 Pool fans - Should he go, and if he does what manager would you be hoping for and which manager would we be most likely to get?

I think he should go, I would like to see Guus Hiddink take the Job, though I'm not sure if he would be able to leave his current posistion with Russia.

thats the problem, under his current contract lfc would have to pay benitez 20 million to cask him, which the club cannot afford. if he did leave/sacked i could see daghlish taking over the first team with sammy lee until the end of the season.
however with the current boardroom unrest at anfield if hicks decided to sack benitez, gillette would probably disagree.
the club is really in a mess and with so many injurys the sitution seems to be getting worse.
all the fans can do for the moment is get behind the team and stick together for the rocky road that lies ahead.

I never knew that it would cost the club that much to get rid of Benitez. And if thats the case the way the club is in dept then Benitez will be going no raod..

Big night 2nite for Liverpool FC - just a FACT for many of the comments flying around about all the wasted money benitez has spent:

CHIEF among the many accusations currently being levelled at Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is that he has 'wasted' the club's money in the transfer market.

"Millions of pounds spent, 70-odd players brought in, weaker squad than when he took over..", the critics cry.
LFC forums today, catalogues in detail all the ins and outs of Benitez's Anfield reign so far and illustrates that the Reds boss has in fact had a net spend of £83m in 5 years (£16.6m a year on average) - less than half of what Manchester City have spent in the last 12 months.

I would probably be more supportive of Rafa if he had liverpool playing good football. I couldn't care less if the Traores, Biscans, Josemi or Nunez's were on the team. As long as the football is played is played right then I believe a lot more people would be behind him. No one is looking for Wenger to get the chop even though Arsenal only have an FA cup to show for over the last 5 years. There have been a lot of dodgy players on their team and he has made one or 2 bad signings but overall Arsenal play good football.

What did the rest of the pool supporters on here think of Whelans comments at the weekend. I notice that he's not the onl ex-player that has been highly critical of Rafa and his methods

Does it matter how much he spends? The point is he has over 100 player transactions...that to me stinks of a guy who is guessing.....As I have said before a child with Championship Manager is all he is.....he's lucky Gerrard and Carra were there from the beginning 'cos I'd hate to see how the club would be doing without them.....They're also the only reason why any other player...Torres etc would sign for them.....Lose Gerrard next Summer and it's championship football.....

i respect ronnies view, however too many ex players have been critical in recent years. its very easy to be critical from the armchair on sky sports or match of the day. sure look at dunphy and giles - they barely have a good word to say about any manager and yet they were useless themselves.

for now anyway its time to get behind the team.

Saw this on a different discussion board a year or two ago and thought it was class. It's an excerpt from the autobiography of a certain Spanish striker, written in the season after he first came to the Premiership. Flying into Manchester airport for the signing was one of the most exciting days of my career. The limo transferring me took a while longer to reach the ground than I expected but once there I was greeted by a sea of red. The chanting and atmosphere were brilliant and it all passed by in a blur.... Once inside the ground I was greeted by the manager, the first time we had met face to face. He was a lot heavier than I expected but spoke to me in good Spanish which made me feel most welcome. We went straight into a conference room for the official signing. After I had put pen to paper the manager turned to me and said "Welcome to the biggest club in the World". I said thank you and asked "When will I meet Wayne and Cristiano"? There followed about ten minutes of confusion from which it transpired that there are two clubs in the North West of England known as the "Reds" and my idiot agent had got them mixed up. However I had signed so had to get on with it. Benitez was known as the "Gaffer". I asked Stevie G (the only other player at the club who could control the ball) why this was. He explained that in English "gaffe" is an embarrassing mistake. Apparently even the owners called Rafa "gaffer". All I can do now is play really well and hope that Real, Barca or possibly Barnsley come and save me from my nightmare. Some days after training I drive from Liverpool to Manchester and sit outside Old Trafford and dream of what might have been. I can sit there for hours. Then Stevie will nudge me and say "Come on Nando, we have to go back". Taken from "How Did I Get Here?" by Fernando Torres

I know Liverpool didn't get the result they wanted but i thought they played well for most of the match. Raffa still makes silly moves what on earth did he take Torres off for with only five minutes to go seeing they are not playing until Monday the mind boggles.

I note that Rafa signings Mascerano and Lucas starred.

Benayoun will always be good.

With 86 mins played last night it was looking like Rafa could host University Challenge.
With 90 mins played he was back presenting the Muppet Show again.

To be fair, they didn't play that badly in the first half. They did put in the classic away performance in the champos league for most of the game. The chances that they created were hardly from playing great football and it was always going to take something like Babels goal to break the deadlock for them. The goal conceded was a perfect example of bad luck and how badly they are defending at the moment. Why did Kyriagalopogas or whatever his name is commit himself? Ridiculous defending.
Pool aren't getting the breaks they got last year and now they've had their worst run in 50 years. At this stage, you really can't see what else he can do to fix things. Hate to sound defeatist but for me Liverpools season is over.
