All-Time World Soccer XI

Following on from Lockjaws thread, here is my all-time selection:

Its an unconventional 3-1-3-1-2 formation but the quality of the back 3 and defensive midfielder allows it! :

Schmeichel
McGrath
Baresi
Maldini
Beckenbauer
Cruyff
Zidane
Pele
Maradona
Van Basten
Romario

Subs: Buffon, Cafu, Cannavaro, Best, Baggio, Ronaldo, Muller.

I've probably forgotten someone significant. I'm surprised there aren't more brazilians and I could have named several Italian defenders. Isn't it strange that Spain have no really undeniably world class legend to consider. Maybe in a few years...

What about Alfredo DiStefano Bref, regarded by many as the greatest of all? Played most of his international career for Spain.

a goalie and one decent defender. then let crjuff, best, maradonna and the bomber do the rest and they would still beat anyone with only 6 on the team

This team would pulverise them:

Schmeichel
McGrath
Baresi
Maldini
Beckenbauer
Gullit
Zidane
Pele
Baggio
Van Basten
Romario

I'd consider him Argentinian Thomas and I havent seen enough of him to put him in the team. A lot of the players are before my time but I've seen enough and read enough about Pele, Beckenbauer, Cruyff etc to include them.

Who do I drop? I have him in the subs!! Keane is not that far off my team!! Its lacking in out and out full backs and centre midfielders and Keane offers something different! A lot of players I considered but left out as they dont offer anything not already on the team.

Fraid not Baron
whilst ure team is undeniably spectacular, where is the balance in MF....where is the stopper?
Its all well and good haveing eusebio etc but if there is no one to stop the oppostion getting thru.....
nobody would over power keane and Nadal the beast!! and if they didm they have to beat Baresi and Tessotti!! And we have all the flair in the world then to open anyone up!

I do love Keane but Matthaus would stick the pair of them in a sandwich and eat the krusts and still be hungry.

Put Giggs in seriously think he is probably one of the most under rated players of all time!

I never saw much of Puskas, De stefano, Matthews, Peter Docherty, or Sivori, or even John Charles.

So I have a few good defenders, and no holding/defensive mid field in my team, so no idea how they would get on as a team. Amazingly, as GB and Ireland have produced very few WORLD class players in 45 years I have 3 in my team. Mind you one was arguably the best keeper ever, and one WAS the best striker ever, no argument.

Jennings

Faccetti Baresi Beckenbaur Scirea

Pele Zidane Platini Maradona

Best Greaves

I could pick an entirely different team in another half hour, but there you go.
