has anyone read henry martin's book yet? It's just what hurling in limerick didn't need. Things are bad enough but it seems it's going to get a whole lot worse.

I havent read the book yet, but from reading the article in this weeks Leader, it seems that it will be another session of washing our dirty linen in public again. Do we really need more of that.

Lads, its a bit ridiculous to knock the book if you haven't read it. I've read it, it will do no harm to Limerick hurling and it is not in any way "washing dirty linen in public".

And its not a book which is trying to profit from the controversies that have beset the county.

One case in point: The drinking culture. If anything, this book presents the whole issue as a storm in a teacup, a non issue which has been blown out of proportion.

It doesn't go out to slate anyone. Having read it, I can't say I'm all that impressed with elements within the county board. They haven't exactly been helpful to the county's cause down the years, and in this county, the players and coaching set up are always the ones who get the blame when the proverbial you-know-what hits the fan. After reading this book, I felt more sympathetic to the players and coaching set up. That's no bad thing now is it?

I recommend it. You will learn something. The Tom Ryan era makes for good reading.

I have not seen the book yet, but I see no reason why we should be afraid of the real stories behind myths. From the reviews I have read, it seems to be a fair minded approach to the era, giving the people involved the opportunity of telling the story, as they saw it.

I know we would rather be reading more joyful material, but then that other Limerick blockbuster was no bag of laughs, God be good to Frank McCourt.

Lads I'm off to buy it this evening. Limerick GAA needs some straight talking and proper direction from our county board. loosing Eibhear O'Dea is a huge backward step.

I haven't read it yet but will. I suppose I should hold my fire until I do read it but I don't see it doing it any good for Limerick hurling. It looks like we will be ridiculing ourselves in public yet again.

Henry's book is getting massive reviews. It may be exactly what Limerick hurling folk need. To have stuff brought out in the open as 7 managers in 7 years can't all be wrong (I don't know if these are the exact statistics, as I stopped counting long ago...Many people did). Limerick hurling is at as low an ebb as it has been for years, and we cannot go on hiding our heads in the sand. Perhaps 24 points of a hiding to Tipp is slightly exaggerated. However, Tipp are realistically about 12-15 points ahead of us at present. True gaels with Limerick hurling at heart are really hurting these days. And what's worse, one of the few forwards we had that could take on his own man and beat him, Ollie Moran, has just retired. Thanks Ollie, and enjoy it. You deserve to.

I'm definitely treating myself to an early Xmas present, with a copy of the Galbally's man book.

To S Man. Yes, I can take the man seriously and the very best of luck to him in his new position. It's a damn fine read. It's flying off the shelves, and it seems even many non-Limerick people are buying it. I doubt if you've even taken the time to read it. I don't know where you're sense of begrudgery seems to be coming from, but it is possible that a person whom you seem to personally dislike, may just be after writing a best-selling book. My advice is to read it. You can borrow a copy from someone if you don't want to enrich the author. Even if you do like the read, you can continue disliking Henry Martin.

Book is dead on, i have not read one page and thought that is bull. I have had discussions with people in relation to it as well, people that could make and should have made the book they wouldn paint a pretty picture. Lets get one thing straight as long as the people running Limerick Hurling continue doing so things will get alot worse as some of these people simply dont care about the game. The attempts to block lifting the treaty is a disgrace. Justin is also just training that team, a face for the suits. Ps i say Limerick Hurling as that is the money earner, they dont interfere in running of the football .

its an absolute disgrace, i've read the book and i can honestly say its the biggest pile of b#ll i've read in years and its the last thing this county needs. my own beloved claughaun is doing trojan work at all age levels trying to develop skills and nurture talent in an era where hurling has begun to play second fiddle to munster rugby and bogball. many other clubs in the city and county are putting in gargantuan levels of effort at underage and senior grades. i implore every person to boycott this book and on behalf of all in the city i can assure you sir that you are not wanted around these parts. good day to you all.

Claughaun 1982
I am delighted to hear of all the good work been done in your club and I hope the club returns to her former proud place in the hurling hierarchy of the county. However as one who played the game and has followed Limerick for almost 50 years I feel that a lot of what Henry Martin writes is dead on. We have allowed a small number of county board officials to dictate their agendas for far too long. Clubs have faciliitated this by sending very quiet representatives who never seem to take on these people. Why did nobody speak when Jackie Power was so scandalously treated at the end of his playing days. Why did nobody challenge the Secretary and C.M. after 96. They should not have asked Tom Ryan 20 questions but asked themselves 20 times how Mike Galligan was not allowed line out. Ger Lougnane was probably right when he described the majority of county board delegates the way he did. As far as your sad plea to boycott the sale of the book is concerned I for one have relised that I have a simple choice in choosing a small XMas present for my friends this year. Henry's delighful publication will do just splendidly.
