santy...seen as mc donnell wouldn't pick holcroft for his minor side when he was one of the best corner forwards around in that year i doubt he'll get a good deal with mc donnell this year

Do not really understand this hype around holcroft. In my opinion he offers nothin to open play. He is one of the best dead ball takers in the county but take that out and you get a junior player. I agree with the other comment.. Cormac Reynolds and Brian Kermode should be taken into the trial matches and had alook at along with Daire Englishby, Ryan Leneghan and Stephen Moonan of Newtown Blues.

holcroft is a good player and on his day and when he wants to play can be unmarkable!!!
hope he gets a chance with the county this year(senior or under 21 level)
his does have the best dead ball in the county.

DORA thats utter rubbish. Due to loyalty to their team some excellent players could end up playing Junior football all their lives...that does not mean that they are not good enough to play intercounty.

Besides this topic was asking for names to be suggested...its not as if the current team with all its Senior players is doing the business so maybe the new management should scratch below the surface. They might be surprised...

As for Junior football being rubbish, that comment just stinks of ignorance...

ye mcdonnell won't pick holcroft imo, as he didn't pick him for louth minors when he was minor, holcroft was one of the best minors in the county at the time,

There is no doubt that Holcroft is a talented player and very good from a dead ball.. In my opinion though he doesnt produce his best form on the big occasions. He deserves to get his chance at u21 this year but im not sure about senior.

under 21 is a good start for holdcraft, in my opinion he isnt as good a player as you all think in open play he doesnt contribute enough and his free taking covers over a lot he can be easily bullied out of games also the is a big step from being a good under age player to going to a senior inter county set up as a forward he is not as effective as judge, mcdonnell, pepe smith, maguire, reid x 2,brennan,lennon,clarke,oboyle, i think there are better around maybe in a couple of years he will devlope into a better option. i also think that we are in trouble if the manager thinks he only needs 6 fresh faces in the squad this means that 24 of the present squad are good enough i think there is only 2 that should be kept and the rest sent back to there clubs and put forward for trials.

Keepthefaith I don't know how many times it needs to be said but the manager can only hold trials for the players who were not members of last years championship squad. I also think it is very unfair on a young player like Ronan Holdcroft to have his game dissected on this site by anonymous posters. Leave the lad alone and let him develop free of criticism from the anonymous cyber "experts".

greengrass why can he only hold trials for players who were not members of last years squads surely every player who is going to take a place on an inter county panel should have to earn that place not be given it on past performances were not in the same position as countys who get some sucess if 24 lads have a golden ticket straight away then the next 6 players who get the call to complete the squad are no going to be able to make the difference that we need if you want to represent your county then attending trials shouldnt be 2 much to ask.

Keepthefaith it is as a result of the GAA moratorium on training in November and December. The GAA in its wisdom prevents county managers bringing their panels together in those months to train or play. Friendlies do not take place in those months. They do allow managers to hold two trials with players who have not been part of the championship panel over the course of the season just past. A player who was on the panel and who did not play in the championship is still prevented from taking part in the trials. It's a ridiculous policy. The ban is nationwide. All counties have to adhere to it.

kevin rogers and mark mcgeown r two players who should b in the louth fold this year, also brendan nash is by far the best goalkeeper in the county at the minute and he actually does goals for his club unlike reylonds and connor,

i think big john mc guinness from the joes could be worth taking a look at. louth need a big target man in the square. it has worked for kerry in recent years. the lad stands at about 6"4 and has a great pair of hands.
