patrique what match were u watching yesterday?...mayo minors got stuck into armagh, but physically weren't strong enough...they did well to get to the final, but really down should have put them to the sword..

Of course Down should have beat them, did ANYONE say they shouldn't have?

And yes, Mayo are physical, but they are not CYNICAl with a win at all costs attitude.

And great to see.

Better to be getting to minor finals then not. I've seen this Mayo team up close and they are no angels, they are physical and honest but not a patch on last years team (Aidan O Shea Etc).
Most posters seem to recognise that Mayo's record in finals goes to show they are good but not good enough and there is no shame in that. Other posters seem to have a vendetta against Mayo because of what some "Mayo" posters write on here. Do you not realise it is irrational to hate a county because of what nameless, faceless posters claiming to be from that county say on a GAA forum?

For gods sake lads. A Mayo poster stuck this thread on the main page knowing that some slagging was inevitable. Rua responded with a witty and tongue in cheek remark and the next thing we have all the poor innocent Mayo lads lets us know that their feeling have been hurt. If you would pull your horns in a bit you would realise that most Irish prople would love to see Mayo win a final and that they take no pleasure from seeing a bunch of 17 and 18 year olds lose. However this is football and slagging is all part of the game. I live in Mayo and Mayo people themselves are the first to take the mickey out of their poor final record. Don't be pretending that you're all innocent little children here.

The beautiful thing about Mayo is that they thrive on defeat and will always come back next year. Mayo have given alot to the GAA, and will conquer Croker soon

Ahhh Patrique the mask slips. You were one of the people encouraging the non footballing parts of Antrim to get behind the footballers. Well we didn't need your encouragement. I attended all bar one of the games. Fair play to you for keeping the game going. Recognise this? I think you guys call it a 'hurley bat' up your way. Quaint!

I feel sorry for the Mayo minor team they had to much pressure put on their young shoulders because of the history of the senior team. It is hard enough to win any final but i am sure these young lads knew everyone was waiting on them to fail and when things weren't going their way the seeds of doubt set in and it was impossible to change it round. I didn't take any pleasure in seeing the pain in their faces after the final whistle its not easy to accept when you are so young. As far as the gloating by other Counties is concerned the blame firmly lies at the door of a small number of Mayo people on this forum who go out of their way to antagonise everyone else. I am sure the majority of decent Mayo people are sick and tired of these people and would wish they would shut up and quit winding people up and bringing scorn on their county.

432223 Being from the same county as Glensman I too am a bit jealous of Mayo's success, but do not begrudge them.

Even yesterday Mayo remained faithful to the concept of the beautiful game.

After 22 minutes an Armagh forward MIGHT have been fouled as the Mayo lad's arm came over his shoulder and briefly touched him.

The reaction was astounding. Both feet left the ground, he turned a full circle, arms flung in the air and collapsed as though shot by an elephant gun.

Five years ago we had 5 Tyrone minors all booked for fouling one player, Darren O'Sullivan, on a rotational basis.

Such coaching may breed success but at what cost. Give me Mayo anytime.

even ignoring teh club finals with senior, minor, and u/21 its about 18 appearances incl 2r and 17 losses. in the last 20 years alone !!!!

not looking for sympathy but just wanted to see it written down.

each of those finals is gutting.

if mayo win teh all ireland next year (and i believe there is no one around as good bar kerry) we wont invade the pitch. we'll assume we've lost and head home.!

The amount of finals lost is unfortunate to say the least. However, they're competitive at all levels and cant be a million miles away from success. I for one wouldn't begrudge them an All-Ireland. Up the underdogs!

in fairness this thread was aways going to end up as a slagging to mayo folk. sundays defeat was hard to take yet again but i really felt for the players and as three of them live near me i know they are hurting.mistakes are forgotton in victory and magnified in defeat, i have no doubt they will be back and its a shame to see posters from other counties taking joy in mayo's misery.
i know some of our countymen have let themselves down on this site but i could also dislike other counties because of posts about mayo but i dont dslike any county.

for the record it is indeed 18 final defeats and it could be 19 next year but mayo will be in an all ireland again very soon. as ray demsey said we in mayo are not going to give up and stop playing football.

up mayo!

Yewtree- Yes it is hard for young fellas to go to Croke Park and take a defeat. However there are some fundamentals that need to change before Mayo will win an All Ireland.

You are not going to get rid of your archaic County Board so you have to lobby for key decisions to be made for the right reasons. JOM's appointment was for political reasons, nothing else. The man he replaced had more success in one year than JOM has had in 3. JOM has had a fair crack at the whip and is clearly not the Messiah or up to the task. You need to get rid of him soonest and his replacement needs to have management potential and/or recent experience of All Ireland success. Doubt that this will happen though.

The notion that Mayo play a pure brand of football is not convincing. Some of the Connacht matches in recent years have been awful in terms of quality! I would like to see a defintion of this 'pure football.' Yes Mayo have been involved in some very 'exciting' games in recent years, the Galway game is a good example but many of them have been exciting only because Mayo have or almost snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.

You 'might' have the footballers but the fact that they have come up short on so many occasions across the grades needs some detailed analysis. Why does it happen? Why do the players lack the mental tougness needed to win an All Ireland? The Mortimer tribute to Michael Jackson while treated with humour in many corners was an indictaion that at least one player was not totally focused on what he should be doing. I just couldn't see this happening in any of the 'real' contenders camps, and they were probably having a right laugh, at your expense!

So what is going to change for next season, not the manager, not the tactics! Perhaps a few new players. This won't be enough!

yes Barnowl94 , they file defeat after defeat away in the great Mayo GAA filing cabinet and they seem to take some positives from it and bounce back to LOSE again in the future. Most other counties lie low after losing A.I.'S
