In 10 years will there be a Dungannon Club?
The Hurlers seem to be flying so why the lack of youth at Football, which, no doubt is the most popular of the codes in Tyrone.

Dungannon's problem is not unique..... the GAA got in a panic about losing the cities and set out to do something about that problem but in fact the organisation is in a much worse state in some of the big towns.
Is the situation not similar in Newry, Ballinasloe and Ennis. I think the problem is often that there is one club in a town since time immemorial and that club refuses to allow other clubs be set up within the town as populations rise. In the end it is self-defeating as the local rivalry, which the GAA thrives on, just isn't there.
Lurgan would seem to be an exception and a good example of how to go forward where four or five clubs are competing against each other and all seem to be relatively strong.

Dungannon lost a generation from a very good minor team a few years ago, its paying the price now by having to play teenagers when they shouldnt really

433678 response to thomas clarke: what are the bigger issues????

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much what I outlined before. Much as it pains me to type it:

Lack of youth development (going back 20 years now) - lack of worthwhile links to schools in the area to help improve this;
Out of date facilities - Lack of funds to develop this;
Lack of any large-scale fundraising;
Lack of marketing of the club in the town;
Most people in Dungannon have no interest in how the club is getting on;
Lack of discipline in teams and mentors (underage to senior);
Generation of players who should be in their mid-20s have been lost;
Petty, internal squabbles, some dating back to the split in the 90s.

I think those are all more important issues for us to address before we worry about who is senior manager. You build a club first, and (in a town with a population like Dungannon) success will follow.

Some problems the Clarkes should look into

1: Lack of respect towards hurling club ! They should be working out ways to share players rather than working out ways to get them to stop playing hurling.
link more with the hurling club. Allow them to use their facilities more. The hurlers are supposed to have played more HOME games away this year than they did at O Niell park.
It has proved over the years that decent hurlers just leave the Clarkes for other clubs or they just stop playing football because of the attitude of the Clarkes.

2 : Lack of respect towards the Camogie club. Again the Clarkes will throw obstacles in front of them rather than help promote another GAA club.

3 : Lack of respect towards the ladies football club. Again they pay this club lip service just because they play football and help when they need tea made. Plans are afoot to have the ladies leave O Neill park in a couple of years time.

I know there is a big strain on the facilities in O Neill park but some of the present committee go out of their way to cause problems.
Dungannon dosn,t need one big club but it badly needs these four clubs pulling together.

Lack of youth development (going back 20 years now) - lack of worthwhile links to schools in the area to help improve this; A gala dinner in Armagh 60k+ Out of date facilities - Lack of funds to develop this; A gym at 100k+ Lack of any large-scale fundraising; Lotto Lack of marketing of the club in the town; 3 major school's in the town Most people in Dungannon have no interest in how the club is getting on; Why?? Lack of discipline in teams and mentors (underage to senior); Sort out the club committee and the teams will look after them selves Generation of players who should be in their mid-20s have been lost; Why?? Petty, internal squabbles, some dating back to the split in the 90s. Bull EOGHAN RUADH ABU A far better club...........

Good to see the hurlers and the footballers with a bit of silverware this year, Dungannon is obviously the GAA centre of excellence in Tyrone
