Favourite second county and most hated rivals?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

This is a silly thread I know, but I'll give it a go anyway. Each of us has a soft spot for another county in the GAA whether we like to admit it or not and we all have fierce rivals that we love to see suffer come league and championship. After my beloved faithful county I've always looked out for Roscommon results over the years, I actually can't give a reason why. My County that I love to see suffer more than anybody else, without question Westmeath for too many reasons to mention.

Tyrone/Armagh

Its 1/1 in recent years Donegal v tyrone
Never had any bad experience at games v Tyrone
and good to see them win SAM etc
Im from North Donegal so border is with Derry rather than tyrone - so no Parochial issues

We lost 2002,2003,2004,2005,2006 to Armagh - not sure if any other county can match that in recent history - ie getting beaten five years in a row in the AI by the same county Im sure they are in the minority but Ive had some unpleasant experiences with Armagh fans who have had too much Bucky.

Though if it was Armagh v Kerry or Dublin I might pull in the horns

Real Kerry fan, how on earth could a Kerry man possibly dislike Carlow?

second favourite team is Longford. Parents born there. I remember very vividly in 66, even though I was only a nipper when they beat the great Galway team in the league final by 9 pts to 8 pts. I think they got drunk for the whole of 67 but won their only Leinster the following year in 68. They played Kerry in the AI semi final and were 10 pts down 10 minutes into the second half. Amazingly they went a point up with 5 mins to go but Kerry got 4 pts in the dying minutes to win by three/ It was my first introduction to Gaelic Games and set the trend for my life long involvement thereafter. County I would dislike the most, not hate, would be Tyrone and that is because of the beatings they have given us over the last few years and because of their cynicism.

Second team: Waterford or Dublin (just not in the AIF)

Most hated: Don't really like to say I hate any team but Wexford and Galway would probably be my least favourite.

Niamh, would Armagh not be just as fierce rivals to yourselves as Tyrone?

Second favourite would be my beloved Mayo.

Most hated are those arrogant, extremely successful Northern "new comers" the creme de la creme of Ulster football in my lifetime, from Down.

In hurling I follow, forgive me it goes back 46 years, Kilkenny. I would dislike Tipp from a childish memory, and Limerick due to Frankie Carroll in 1994.

No, I live near the Derry/Tyrone border so it is quite bitter around there.

always liked to see offaly do well for some unknow reason. dont have any connections there whatsoever. even though they seemed to beat us a lot in the 90's. like to see mayo beat galway and like derry. like cork hurlers

most hated is dublin obviously. went through a stage in the 90's also where i hated everything about kildare in 98 but i like to see them do well now. same with tyrone but i never had a reason to dislike them then. always love to see them beat kerry and dublin these days

but the one team who will always be the most hated are those dubs

Being from Newry which is practically half in Armagh and half in Down I'd safely say I hate Down.

I like Louth as it's nearby and Limerick for no particular reason.
