Sad to see the old alma mater going out in the first round. It has happened in the past. SJC is a school with a football team and not the other way round. Certain qualities and work ethic ensured past success. There are massive changes in the school. Time will tell if the old qualities and work ethic remain. Anyone seeking information on the ethic of the past should look up an interview of Canon Oliver Hughes by Martin Brennan which was published in the Mayo News some years ago. It encapsulates what made SJC teams great and gave them the never say die spirit they were renowned for. The future is unknown. It is now up to the current pupils and teachers what the future holds for the school and the football team. Everyone knows what Roy Keane said "fail to prepare, prepare to fail". oldSJCfan (Galway) - Posts: 12 - 03/02/2010 21:26:02 551046 Link 0 |
Salthillboy: wouldnt agree with you there...Sean Armstrong is a very fine player, Gearoid will never be in his league, he's to easily taken out...parallels with mayos aidan o shea and his younger brother, conor. Armstrong was no match for many of the young and small muredachs players. CarlosDaJay (Galway) - Posts: 68 - 04/02/2010 12:43:51 551420 Link 0 |

Double_S: The Junior game will only be a tough game if Jarlaths are as weak as Muredachs, although many of the team also play on the senior team, the team is weak and has been weak right through since first year, having never won any title and rarely if ever having won a game either. My money is on Jarlaths...maybe I'll eat my words yet CarlosDaJay (Galway) - Posts: 68 - 05/02/2010 09:41:35 552341 Link 0 |
agree with you there carlos if im being honest but the muredachs team does have 5 or 6 very good players but the rest is weak in truth but i can see them causing an upset as jarlaths mentality will not be at its usual level, and muredachs will be on a high after the recent sucesses Double_S (Mayo) - Posts: 52 - 05/02/2010 20:53:08 553152 Link 0 |

So Jarlaths are out.. you would think they would have done better with them joining with St Pats. Its clear to see the days of the borders are long gone gaillimh15 (Galway) - Posts: 214 - 06/02/2010 18:05:24 553567 Link 0 |
juniors 2-15, murdocks 0-0, jarlaths tru to the connacht championship without conceding a point yet. are they playing mary's or colman's next? wellscan (Galway) - Posts: 37 - 08/02/2010 17:18:51 555350 Link 0 |
jarlaths 2-13 colmans 0-8.whats the verdict on that men?i was dissapointed from a colmans perspective with their 2nd half performance bar a few!jarlaths were beatable but tacticaly got it right tomhunt (Mayo) - Posts: 81 - 25/03/2010 12:40:01 598318 Link 0 |
I was at that game also and was very impressed with them. When I heard it was all Pats managers in the new school I admit I was sceptical but this manager seems to have got it right, very well organised. They have forwards who look like they belong in the blue and white of SJC, Ian Burke and S Walsh in particular. Armstrong is good but a bit greedy. They brought on a sub who definately should be started, number 21? Him and S Walsh seemed to link up very well and he had a hand in everything SJC did in the 2nd half.Corner back had a great game too, Treacy. Interested to know who do they lose from that team for Senior next year and is there talk of anyone repeating yet?? Its about time everyone stopped critisising Jarlaths and started showing the support they used to be renowned for, there is a great challenge to overcome in relation to bonding the two schools, but I would see it more as a great opportunity to achieve something great and win their first Hogan cup as a new hybrid school. That would shut everyone up saying SJC was only ever good cause of the borders. hoganstandman (Galway) - Posts: 33 - 30/03/2010 14:34:10 603973 Link 0 |
hoganstandman.i think jarlaths are very strong now next year after that win but from jarlaths perspective what you make a colmans?was tracey not marking some1 and was switched to bein free man cause he was kinda gettin roasted! tomhunt (Mayo) - Posts: 81 - 30/03/2010 16:11:11 604157 Link 0 |
I wasnt sure what happened that he seemed to have a licence to roam forward?? I did think he played that role very well. I thought Colmans started very well and certainly had the beating of SJC in the middle of the park, was it Coen midfield for ye? But Jarlaths let the ball into the full forward line early and fast and if not for a few overhit passes would have had the game closed off earlier. hoganstandman (Galway) - Posts: 33 - 30/03/2010 17:06:09 604264 Link 0 |
re juvenile A - PCH very lucky to scrape by a very good St murdeachs team in juvenile last friday. How murdeachs were bottom of their group in league is hard to figure out. Summerhill next for PCH, will be a tough game, could go either way, volunteer (Galway) - Posts: 4 - 30/03/2010 18:34:25 604450 Link 0 |
It is also important to piont out that jarlaths are at a huge disadvantage as the school has a 5 year term when nearly all the other schools have 6.It is something they should look at for next year behindtheditch (Galway) - Posts: 333 - 30/03/2010 21:29:39 604713 Link 0 |
ya stephen coen.hes only 14!i think if colmans full forward line got enough ball they cuda done damage!.but the 2 goals on the break killed them off.a good jarlaths team i think. tomhunt (Mayo) - Posts: 81 - 31/03/2010 11:49:51 604964 Link 0 |
what schools have six years?technically pch have only five because TY is not used by any good footballers and thats a fact! techland (Galway) - Posts: 494 - 31/03/2010 14:58:13 605320 Link 0 |
Just a word on Presentation College, Headford. Its great to see that there teams have come on leaps and bounds these past few years. From what I can see they have a dedicated line of trainers down there and they emphasize on taking part rather than winning. But it seems to come hand in hand now as they have two teams in 'A' league finals and are making steady progression in the 'A' championship in 1st year, 2nd year & Juvenile competitions. This will surely bode well for the future. It is worth noting also that PCH played St. Jarlaths 3 times this year, winning two and losing one, so it shows that progression is being made and it wont be long now before they start bringing home winners medals. 69r (Galway) - Posts: 102 - 31/03/2010 16:21:20 605488 Link 0 |
its an option though isnt it. im sure its worth 2 or 3 players to most schools. stgeralds is compulsory ty and all the northern schools do 6 years aswell as the majority of schools in the country. would be a serious advantage as 11 or 12 of this years senior side are young enough next year which would be massive. midfieldmaster (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 31/03/2010 16:38:16 605525 Link 0 |
