It was painful burca. I was playing. for dunmore. don't really see the point in a game like that for jarlath's but especially not for us. joel (Galway) - Posts: 45 - 02/10/2009 19:36:37 443367 Link 0 |
St Jarlath`s will be doing well to win Connaught this year. Their team is not great. There is a lot of Fourth years on the team. The biggest problem with this team is the midfield. They are not great at catching the ball in the middle of the pitch nor are they any good at picking up breaks. This has been the main problem for Jarlath`s teams in the past few years. Fact. They don`t seem to have many good strong men that are good at catching ball at midfield. KnowUrStuff (Galway) - Posts: 3 - 09/10/2009 19:48:32 450067 Link 0 |
the same thing we hear about jarlaths every year- there time has passed even with the amalgamation because of the lack of borders, even though they have the pick of footballers in the county they'll struggle to compete at a national level- the end of an era puff_daddy (Galway) - Posts: 56 - 09/10/2009 23:13:51 450262 Link 0 |
mayo made jarlaths with the borders bak in the day!! Shoxx007 (Meath) - Posts: 4 - 10/10/2009 15:14:15 450664 Link 0 |
From what im told, Jarleths have a decent team but not the great team required to win a hogan cup. The extra push for places with the new pats players can only be good though, i hear that pats team if they didnt join up would have been the best pats team since the team which knocked jarleths out of the championship several years ago. no3 (Galway) - Posts: 66 - 10/10/2009 19:14:13 450782 Link 0 |
Know ur stuff.... U no noting ders 2 Fourth years on the team and the two are from corofin and they are the best players on the corofin minor team... And what u onbout St Jarlaths midfield.. u defly seen a leauge game against dunmore when the 4th years wore playin and your going from that game.. get ur facts right.. maybe so, but dey lost 2 big players in Niall Quinn and Thomas Healy. A big loss to most teams. corofin_man (Galway) - Posts: 6 - 10/10/2009 21:43:16 450833 Link 0 |
It brings me back a fair few years with my time with Presentation Headford when we played Jarlaths at many levels, they won all around them that time. But since the boarding finished they have had an almighty famine. Shame really. ChrisSweeney (Galway) - Posts: 45 - 11/10/2009 14:45:29 451136 Link 0 |
I agree with KnowUrStuff. I have watched this St. Jarlath`s team since they have been in first year. I saw them against Summerhill last year. Time after time Summerhill just kept winning kickout after kickout. It was putting awful pressure on the full back line. There was nobody good enough on the team to catch the ball or even win the breaks at midfield. It was the same problem at all the games that i have ever been to. Don`t get me wrong this team has some potential. Their forwards are pretty good. If i was the St. Jarlath`s manager I would place huge emphasis on winning the ball in the middle of the pitch. I know that they have been playing good football this year but they have only been up against poor teams such as Dunmore and Athenry. I didnt see their game against the Corofin minors so i cant judge them on that game. I heard that they lost. Is that true? Galway98 (Galway) - Posts: 7 - 11/10/2009 15:15:11 451148 Link 0 |
Yeah they lost to corofin minors by a goal i think it was. Hold on shamsocks5 there is more than 2 fourth years on the team. There is Adrian Varley, Armstrong, Pa Gylnn. Adrian Nolan was also playing against corofin aswell. Sean Silke and Ian Burke haven`t even played yet for this senior team. I didn`t see the game against Dunmore and I am not basing my statement on that. I saw some of last years games that they played and they could not win the kickouts. If St. Jarlath`s can win their kickouts they could do well this year as the forward line is good. If that forward line gets good ball, it can do damage. what do the pats lads make of joining with jarlaths and visa vera, will it take a few years for the two schools to gel properly?? i think jarlaths will be still strong but not near as much as they were back in the day. it will be between jarlaths, geralds and colmans for connacht i think yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11539 - 15/10/2009 17:29:56 455630 Link 0 |

Is Rugby being introduced. What effect will it have? mog11 (Galway) - Posts: 22 - 30/10/2009 23:42:40 471475 Link 0 |
Heard St.Jarlath's are starting Rugby. That going to hurt them. Since they stopped the boarding they having not got the choice of players. galwaybobby1 (Galway) - Posts: 24 - 30/10/2009 23:52:27 471480 Link 0 |
Keep a eye on Clifden Community School they have start to play Football in the School. Along history, sending there footballers to St.Jarlath's when it had Boarding. NaomhFeichin (Galway) - Posts: 11 - 30/10/2009 23:56:40 471482 Link 0 |
As a member of the Jarlaths squad myself it's nice to see a bit of discussion going on about us. There is huge competition for places and the training is fairly intense. I like to see people writing us off already, it only adds fuel to the fire. Qwerty123456 (Galway) - Posts: 6 - 31/10/2009 01:54:07 471536 Link 0 |
I think it is a mistake to introduce rugby to SJC. SJC has no TY so footballers at Senior level are drawn from 4th and 5th years mainly. They will now be tempted to try two codes. Successful school football teams are nearly all specialists at one game. This does not augur well for future success in the school. Some of the old traditions were there for a reason and should not be lightly discarded. Can the tradition survive transition in the school ? It will need serious guidance in the years ahead to do so. oldSJCfan (Galway) - Posts: 12 - 31/10/2009 13:08:41 471675 Link 0 |
