offaly leinster hurling final in 1980. Nobody gave them chance. Leinster had been a carve up between Wexford and Kilkenny for donkeys years before that. Puddersthecat (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1692 - 04/09/2009 09:25:39 415165 Link 0 |
Gailimh you beat me to it. Nothing will compare as it was the old knock out system and the Banner brought the crowd too face the Dubs. castlemaine (Kerry) - Posts: 546 - 04/09/2009 10:33:39 415208 Link 0 |

Id say 2 of the greatest upsets was Mayo losing heavily to Kerry 2004 and 2006. mitchells (UK) - Posts: 33 - 04/09/2009 12:55:30 415405 Link 0 |
Haha, Mitchells I needed a laugh, those were probably the two most predicatble reults in the histroy of the GAA! JPM1981 (Kildare) - Posts: 825 - 04/09/2009 13:06:11 415417 Link 0 |
I do believe the oul man is referring to 1943, when antrim beat kilkenny in the semi final in corrigan park i think, im sure patrique will correct me, i think antrim won by 2 or 3 points really low scoring match. Cork destroyed us as usual though in the final!! bumpernut (Antrim) - Posts: 1852 - 04/09/2009 13:20:37 415436 Link 0 |
Did you think we had only been in one hurling final? Sorry lads, two in football, two in hurling. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 04/09/2009 17:33:44 415766 Link 0 |

Beating Kerry in 82 was not a shock to Offaly people but losing the Leinster final to Dublin in 83 certainly was. Cork beating Kerry the week before had the bookies making us red hot favourites to win back to back all Irelands but we took an underperforming Dubs team for granted and paid the price by losing the Leinster final by 5 points. The rest is history with Dublin beating Galway in the famous 12 versus 14 final. REDROM (Offaly) - Posts: 208 - 04/09/2009 20:05:05 415943 Link 0 |

2005> carlow beating offaly in the qualifiers (forget the score), 2006> louth drawing with tyrone and mayo beating dublin in the all ireland semi which was one of the best matches ive ever seen and 2009 no real shock results apart from antrim beating donegal but its been a fairly poor football championship, no memorable matches wildrover (Carlow) - Posts: 242 - 04/09/2009 22:59:24 416125 Link 0 |
