offaly leinster hurling final in 1980. Nobody gave them chance. Leinster had been a carve up between Wexford and Kilkenny for donkeys years before that.
offaly and seamus darby wrecking the kerry 5 in a row in football.

Gailimh you beat me to it. Nothing will compare as it was the old knock out system and the Banner brought the crowd too face the Dubs.

415239 Sorry Lads, When did Antrim beat Kilkenny?

I'm scratching my head on this one as well. They beat Offaly in 1989 but lost by 2 points to Kilkenny in the semi I thought.

Antrim beat Offaly in 89 ?Before that I thought Offaly beat KK. ??
Also, Kerry Beating Waterford (93?)...but another ( kinda ) upset, Offaly beating Limerick in the AI Final. It was Limericks
match, but alas, not to be.

Thanks for the reminder of Louth beating Kildare in 1991 Ollie!!

Biggest shock must be Offaly beating Kerry in 1982. Or Fermagh beating Armagh in the 2004 All Ireland QF.

Id say 2 of the greatest upsets was Mayo losing heavily to Kerry 2004 and 2006.

I do believe the oul man is referring to 1943, when antrim beat kilkenny in the semi final in corrigan park i think, im sure patrique will correct me, i think antrim won by 2 or 3 points really low scoring match. Cork destroyed us as usual though in the final!!

Did you think we had only been in one hurling final? Sorry lads, two in football, two in hurling.

In 1943 we beat Galway in the quarter final and then beat Kilkenny in the semi final.

The Cork 4 in a row team beat us, but Ulster/Antrim later ran Munster very close in the Railway Cup.

Well is was upsetting for me......But as we have been saying in Mayo all my life, "Sure theres always next year"... or the year after or the year after or the..........

Beating Kerry in 82 was not a shock to Offaly people but losing the Leinster final to Dublin in 83 certainly was. Cork beating Kerry the week before had the bookies making us red hot favourites to win back to back all Irelands but we took an underperforming Dubs team for granted and paid the price by losing the Leinster final by 5 points. The rest is history with Dublin beating Galway in the famous 12 versus 14 final.
Losing to Antrim in 89 was an absolute sickner and on the other side of the coin beating Kilkenny in the 1980 final in front of 9000 people was sheer heaven.

2005> carlow beating offaly in the qualifiers (forget the score), 2006> louth drawing with tyrone and mayo beating dublin in the all ireland semi which was one of the best matches ive ever seen and 2009 no real shock results apart from antrim beating donegal but its been a fairly poor football championship, no memorable matches
