James shaughnessy is a serious footballer but full back would be the last place i would put him! Anywhere else.. Serious footballer

Good win today considering Galway were missing O'Griofa who has probably been their best player this year. Hopfully these lads can get us back winning underage Connacht titles again like we should be doing regularly. Mayo v Leitrim in the other semi.

heard last night that tom flynn from athenry is injured as well as einne from spiddal?? anybody have confirmation on that? will be a very tough game anyway without einne, but without flynn it's quite near impossible, fantastic player.

Looked very good against sligo alright. Heard Flynn is out for a while aswell and einne. Fintan will prob go back to midfield, and its between mike o'donnell, Aaron connolly and Eoin commins I'd say for other mid spot! Heard O'Donnell is goin well at trainin, but I'd go with connolly myself very good player and ball winner. 2 massive losses though, I'd say einne out for a while, hopefully Flynn back for quarters anyway.

Galway 1-10 Mayo 3-9

Galway were actually doing well and leading by a point until half way through the 2nd half when they managed to let in 3 goals in 4 minutes which more or less finished the match. Disappointing result but hopefully they can get some of the injured lads back for the All-Ireland quarter-final against Longford.

I felt Eoin Commins had a good game considering all the talk over the last week has been about the other midfielders. Couldnt believe how poor the defence were. I would have to question Gerry Fahy also, i felt he hamstringed himself with his subs.. That Mcann guy looks very poor and missed a glorious opportunity after some good work by commins. How frustrating must it be for the other panel members too see him get on in a connacht final and not them. The boy Moran and caulfield in particular have every right too seek some answers from Gerry. However, we do have some good players so all is not lost. At least i hope not anyway.

What galway learned from the mayo defeat.

1. James Keane might not be good enough to be in goal, it should be Thomas Healy
2. Fiach O Bearra and James Shaughnessy are the two best backs in galway. James held the team together in the first half (just look at what happened when he went off) and Fiach won breaks and supplied quick ball to the forwards, and he's not even a natural back.
3. Fintan O Curraoin IS a midfielder and not an 11. He won ball excellently but needs to have a defensive midfielder beside him to stay in behind as he tends to leave space behind himself. Could be great beside Tom Flynn.
4. Peadar Og O Griofa should be starting. Simple.
5. Galway need more scoring forwards. Only 3 of 6 scored. Shane Maughan, Peadar Og O Griofa and Niall Quinn. Peadar didnt even start. Varley the wingback got the goal. Maybe the forwards need rearranging. Rabbitte is a great footballer but cannot play on the wing. Walsh looked tired and didnt want the ball. About McCann above i don't think its fair to write him off for one small mistake after 2 seconds on the pitch. He clearly has earned his place in training and deserves to play. He did no worse than rabbitte or walsh. He is receiving criticism for getting himself into a dangerous position not credited for reading space. Sean Moran is an excellent footballer but not ready for minor football this year. His knee injury has set him back a lot and he should rest it properly to be fit and able for next year.
6. Tom Curran needs to learn to keep his passes down. He hit a pass 30 metres high to Niall Quinn who's galways smallest player.
7. Michael O Donnell was unfairly treated by being taken off so early. He just should have been told to play closer to the halfbacks and cover them to let Commins go forward and play. Neither defended well and they left the halfbacks to get destroyed.
8. Galway don't win breaks and need to start putting bodies on the line.

Jaysus, strange team IMO, Shane Maughan on the wing?? Sure thats just a waste of talent! He should be full or in the corner. Thought Aaron Connelly might be given a chance in the middle, he's been playing very well for club. As for the wing backs, I wouldnt agree with either decision. Fiach might have played well the last day but he had a point to prove after being dropped. He should be wing forward if anyhere. As for Tom Curran, he should be given a central position. In his club game vs Salthill he was phenomenal, he must have kicked about 10 points, most of them around 30-40 yards, thought I saw the minor selectors there, I would have him midf..... Best of luck to them tho, hard to know what they're up against!!
