Just a quick question for Dell or Fredrickwood or anyother referee.
Someone was saying that there's no rule against the 2 man tackle and that there's nothing in the rule book about it.
Was just wondering if it's true or not?

No it is not a foul, but charging is. The best thing a man can do if surrounded while in posession is to drop the ball and hope he gets fouled or the opposition fouls the ball somehow.

There should be a strategy in the rule book about this tactic of swarming. A mark would only slow the game up and would be used as a time waisting tactic.

The ref should be allowed stop the game and throw the ball up between 2 players of his choice.

The certainty is that the game will evolve tactically away from this. A team of Corks sheer size and strength can clean catch and not worry about being surrounded. We are now entering the era of the 6 foot 4inch gaa county player.

In fairness, when a fella is on the ground and the swarm wont even let him stand up, it should be a foul. I think it should be cut out to be honest. When three of four fellas are huddled around one person, there is no way the ref can see all that is going on, and there is definately more than one hand on the player in posession. It makes it all to easy to foul and get away with it.

kerryrowz you're spot on. If Tyrone players had committed some of the fouls the Cork lads did on Sunday this board would be in flames with people getting hot under the collar about their tactics. Canty should have got the line as well as Miskella. It seems that when you "out-Tyrone Tyrone" then the negativity is removed, and it becomes ok - adopting their tactics if you're from a southern county makes it alright. A lot of supposed Kerry supporters are showing their hypocrisy on here with it. As a supporter, it embarrasses me to hear some of the **** being spouted, and the irrational hatred shown to Tyrone. On another note though, what did people make of Mulligan's dive? Very theatrical I thought!

This is not a foul go and read the rule book please as there is no rule in it to back you up. You can have ten players around one player as long as the do not touch them but when this happened sunday cork players charged and got frees . Just to add charging is a foul and is in rule book.

---------------------------
but just like in 2003 they were touching , with both hands. foul after foul after foul.

I'd echo TheMaster's sentiments to the word.

We all saw the clips from the semi in 2003 with Tyrone v Kerry on Sunday once again. At least 4, sometimes 5 men surrounding the man with the ball. And there were hands all over him and belting going on and every sort of a tactic.

You're hardly going to have a situation where there's so many men surrounding one player and none of them touch him! Get real for God's sake! And then you have people saying the ref wasn't applying the rules correctly on Sunday - I'm of the opinion that the ref in 2003 didn't apply the rules correctly. But I won't cry over spilt milk. What's done is done and we all should move on.

It isn't a foul but it is the reason why a mark should be brought in for catches from kick outs because the swarm tactic is making it a dying art.
