Is swarming around a man now a foul?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I noticed a few times on Sunday that when Tyrone in paticular did that swarming around a man thing that they do frees were given against them.Has there been a directive from above to take this unseemly side of things out of football?I always thought it was a foul anyway so I hope that this is now clamped down on big time.

This is not a foul go and read the rule book please as there is no rule in it to back you up. You can have ten players around one player as long as the do not touch them but when this happened sunday cork players charged and got frees . Just to add charging is a foul and is in rule book.

Dont think they are clamping down seeing as Cork were allowed to do it

This is not a foul. You could have the whole team 'swarming' around one man if you want. Did you not notice Cork were doing this all day last Sunday

Would that not constitute as a 2 man tackle?

Niamh

As long as these players do not touch the player with the ball no not 2 man tackle .

I think that this 'swarming' area is one where the sheer size of many of the Cork players gave them an advantage on Sunday.

Tyrone were used to holding up players of similar size to themselves using this tactic, but it was not so effective against Cork players who were bigger than them and who doubtless had been training in how to combat it.

'Charging' is always a grey area and I don't think there were many cut-and-dry instances of it on Sunday.

It was unfortunate for Tyrone to be honest. Cork played Tyrone tactics, but Tyrone got punished more. O Connor been Sent Off played a big part in Bannon refereeing.

no it does not as long as only one man tackles at a time if both men tackled at the same time yes then that is a foul

I do not know if it is or is not, its a bit of a grey area which depends on the ref
one thing i do know is that it should be...

Delboy.....

I was just looking at the first half last night and thought D O' Connor was charging with the ball before passing to Kerrigan who scored off the post

most of the time the players are not touching the player with the ball , only one of the tacklers are actually putting in a challenge while the rest of them block a way out for the player in possesion with the ball.

cork had numerous fouls on tyrone players canty went in late with his knees arms and about everything he could get away with the ref, if that was tyrone they would of being labeled cynical etc, contary what people think most kerry fans didnt care who won on sunday, personally i would of liked tyrone as some of cork team tactics were beyond the line. if that was paul galvin he would be nailed to the cross, instead tony davis said cork did what they had to win the game.

As a referee I felt Bannon had a good day at the office,he was consistent in his applications of the rules.Dellboy you are sooo biased that you can't be takin seriously in your opinion of Bannon. To sum up the ref like so-Is he the reason Tyrone are out of the championship?I think the answer to that is an emphatic no.
As for swarming ,no it is not a foul.

It's not a foul. It depends who is refereeing. Far too much interpretation of the rules by referees as opposed to implementation of them. There is no consistency between referees. That is a huge problem and was highlighted by Mickey Harte on Sunday. Bannon was poor on Sunday. Got a number of calls wrong and was not consistent during the course of the game.

It is quite interesting to note that the free count was virtually level on Sunday.
