The GAA - non party political?

Would I be right in saying that Galbally's ground is a community owned pitch/centre, and although it is used as a home for the GAA club, the GAA don't actually own the ground?

397979 I dont feel propaganda posts like Mugsys should be allowed. They are offensive to anyone with any sense of integrity.

The nonsense you post is offensive. At least Mugsy is quoting a political and meaningful philosophy. You are a WUM/Troll at best!

In 1937 Galbally GAA Hall opened and remained a centre point for the club and parish activities until the current Galbally Community Centre was built in 1995. The hall had been used for a wide variety of cultural and community events over the years hosting, Talent Contests, Celi Dancing Classes, County Feis Competitions, Traditional Irish Dancing and Music Lessons. (taken from Galbally Pearses website) Black and White, I think this answers your query, although I think that all GAA pitches actually belong to the GAA in trust. (open to correction)

B&W I'm not a member of Galbally Pearses but do know that there is a fine community centre there that has been used by Sinn fein and others in the past for debates on policing etc. There is as far as i know a pre-school facility, gymnasium and changing facilities. Who owns what I couldn't honestly say lad. In my own club the building is owned and run by a community centre committee and the GAA club looks after the grounds. I would say Galbally is similar to this.

Black&White, the community hall was built in 1995 and has a myriad of uses. I think that GAA pitches are trusted to Croke Park although I am open to correction on thatt point

Milo
you make a few good points there.

I think in the end GAA people can be in whatever political party they want but they should leave their politics at the gate.
This has not always been the case and indeed there have been more than one party at it.

However, in the north, I must say one party in particular has tried to infiltrate the GAA down the years to its own advantage and GAA premises were often used for purposes they were not intended for.

Okay lads - can I post this - Milo - the administrators removed part of my post so that it makes no sense. Lets say that there was more about Alastair MacDonnell.

Thanks omaghredhand.

My understanding is that the commemoration was held in the hall, if that's the case then this is a complete farce of a debate. GAA rules do not apply to non-GAA property, regardless of whether it is used by the GAA or not, or whether it shares a gorund with GAA pitches.

Don't get me wrong, I have no love of Sinn Féin, especially in the South, but it's not up to the GAA to decide what the community of Galbally do with their own hall.
