How does a song qualify to be a GAA song? Does it have to be murdered by somebody on a GAA special of the Late Late Show?

Incidentally, Have any of ye heard Tubridy doing any sports related interviews on radio or TV? I cringe when I hear him bluff his way through an interview with a sports person he's probably never heard of and certainly won't have seen live. It's brutal cos you know the interviewee knows the interviewer knows nothing about sport and so the interview sucks. At least you know PK has a passing interest in sport. Saw him interview Jack Nicklaus and you could tell he was a hero of his - TV gold. In contrast heard Tubridy interview Roy Keane on the radio. Love him or hate him he's a guaranteed interesting interview. But it was boring because it sounded like he had just googled Roy Keane that morning.

What was this thread about again?

Orlaith, No doubt Dell will reply in his own time if not already but that song by Mickey Coleman is about the Late great Cormac McAnallen

Dúchas

You say tradition counts for naught when two teams take the field,
I fear you are mistaken, lad, but the years will make you yield,
And when your hair's as grey as mine, and time has made you old,
Then you'll invoke the truth I spoke of the Kingdom's green and gold.

You cannot box or bottle it, nor grasp it in your hand,
But pride of race and love of place inspire a love of land
Time honoured is our birthright, we'll never break the mould,
It's deep within the soul of us, who wear the green and gold.

Grey lakes and mountains soaring high, Mount Brandon's holy hill,
The little church at Gallerus, our language living still,
The Skellig Rock, stout football stock, they can't be bought or sold,
For our county's fame, we play the game in the Kingdom's green and gold.

And when the battle's fiercest and the fortunes ebb and flow,
We're still alive, we can survive, we never will let go,
For the spirit of our fathers and of stories yet untold,
Will lead us on to victory, in the Kingdom's green and gold.

We savour Kerry victories, we salute a gallant foe
And when we lose, there's no excuse, we pick up our bags and go,
So raise your glass each lad and lass to our warriors brave and bold,
Who again aspire to the Sam Maguire in the Kingdom's green and gold

Can't believe the Guards breathalised yer man driving the old Zetta as it was clearly the round bale that was putting him all over the road. And another thing, was yer man drunk driving in the Opel vectra near the start of the song the Garda's oul man by chance - I'll bet you he got off.

bluboy, i think for a song to be a gaa song in ireland it must have some reference to getten drunk or mention alcohol in it haha.

The only gaa songs i know are the ones made for tyrone when they get to a all ireland final but the song written by mickey coleman about cormac mcanallen is brilliant i think. Looking also at a few of the 'wild swans' songs and they song pretty good! Im sure the saw doctors have a few gaa related songs?
