Does anyone know when Setanta start to show Championship matches this year, second week into it and can't find any information on their web site in relation to live games they are showing this year.

Rang them yesterday, they did not have a clue when live matches will start. Are the GAA selling out the exiles , Are the professionals in Croke Park becoming Tan clones of the Premership.

I noticed the day of the League final they had the games listed to be shown on Celtic TV but then they disappeared and were not shown. Will TV3 games be shown by them?

What do you mean by encrypted? That you have to have an irish ip address to view it? You can view tg4s live streaming on their website for games on tg4.tv, but they'll have no live championship coverage.
About time Setanta started showing games now, I was expecting to see the galway v ros game or the kildare v wicklow game yesterday. They seem more concerned about showing Indian cricket.
Savo your right in saying that the League final was listed to be shown on Celtic TV, but it never came on, I rang them about it but your one on the phone was clueless about it.

Has anyone got the irish sky box set up over here? Is it worth it?

I have the Irish sky box over and it's well worth it in my view. I'd go mad without the Sunday Game.

if you know how to set up an irish ip address drop it on the forum You'll need to use an Irish proxy server if you want it to appear as though you have an Irish IP address. Have a look http://temple-bar.blogspot.com to find out how to do that in IE and Firefox. The link above also has information on where to find the latest working Irish proxy's. You might have to try a few before you find a working one though......

Setanta actually bid more for coverage of games than RTE/TV3 but the GAA turned them down because they wanted to keep it on terrestrial tv. I can understand their sentiment but this was poor judgement I feel in terms of turning down good money. Most houses have Satellite and it would have been great for us exiles.

The Gaa are right to ensure that it stays on terrestrial TV ensuring that everyone has the chance to view the games, rather than completely selling out for money. To suggest that most houses have Satellite TV now is just conjecture. For exiles it doesn't matter, anyway as if I'm not mistaken Setanta bought exclusive international broadcast rights.

Nevertheless, the last thing I would want is for Setanta to get complete hold of Gaelic Games. They really have shown no ambition to promote Gaelic Games over here and have used them merely as a stepping stone in the battle for broadcasting rights to soccer with Sky. They showed there true colours a couple of years ago, when they tried to block UTV and BBC NI from broadcasting games/highlights, as they claimed that the 6 counties were not part of Ireland.

From what I gather they weren't looking for exclusive rights to all games so there would still be plenty on RTE/TV3. And it's a bit hypocritical of the GAA to turn their money down then turn around and deny counties a chance to play in Croker next weekend because of concerts going on there. At the end of the day Setanta are a business so they are entitled to show whatever sports they want and showing only Irish sports isn't going to make them much money in this country especially now so many are using irish digibox's. the BBC NI digital platform was blocked since 2001 when it launched long before setanta had a proper channel and i know RTE had some objection to it also. their service has been much appreciated but as I say they are a business not a public service

Some Facts:

869,093 Irish Born in Britain - 1.4% of the British population
6,000,000 Britons of Irish Ancestry (either an Irish grandfather or grandmother) - 10% of the British population

Excluding the GAA and its rights, It is an absolute disgrace that an Irish television service is not already available in the UK.

How many asian, american and other european channels are available here.

Part of The Broadcasting (Amendment) Act 2007 deals with the broadcasting of certain services to Irish communities outside the Island of Ireland. As a result of this RTE international is to be created. This will show programmes from RTÉ One, Two and TG4. The Oireachtas has passed legislation requiring that RTÉ supply international service to suit the needs of Irish citizens living abroad, along with other new digital RTÉ channels.

The channel was to be launched in September 2007,
then 2008,
and now its expected to be launched in March 2009.

So expect it to really launch sometime around 2015.

As for the GAA:

Is the GAA not an Irish and international cultural and sporting organisation mainly focused on promoting Gaelic games: the traditional Irish sports of hurling, camogie, Gaelic football, Gaelic handball, rounders, Irish music and dance.

By selling exclusive overseas right to one broadcasting company are they not contradicting what they stand for?

The GAA need to look at the way the AFL promotes itself abroad by having multiable overseas broadcasters and they provide exclusive broadband content including streaming video for international fans via its website.

DJBunnitt,

I wont believe anybody I'd talk to at Setanta, they dont seem to have a clue.

According to their website, tv listings for Setanta 2 next sunday the 25th, the following is listed

13:30 Live: Offaly vs. Laois
Live Leinster Senior Hurling Championship from Portlaoise as Offaly face Laois in their first round clash. The mighty Kilkenny await in the Semi-finals.

16:00 Live: Fermanagh vs. Monaghan
Live Ulster Senior Football Championship quarter final encounter at Enniskillen as Fermanagh face fierce rivals Monaghan. Both sides will be eager to make the semi finals.

But if Setanta dont start showing live games as the email says, then the GAA has serious questions to answer as to why the broadcasting company they sold exclusive right to show gaelic games abroad are not showing them? When the GAA sold these rights they should have ensured in the contract that x amount of games should be shown live, or else not sell these rights at all to this company. As i've said above in a previous comment, the GAAs main function is promote Gaelic games.

I would give it another week or so and see if Setanta start showing live games or not, if they do not, it is time then start a campain to bombard GAA HQ with emails on the above subject.

I have a suspicion that the Escourt Arms in Watford shows the GAA if that's any help to you. Probably worth looking them up and giving them a call first though.

Essex, You have a few places but the easiest one to find is o'sheas on London Road in Luton five minute drive from M1 junction 10, come off the motorway follow the signs for Luton town centre and you will see on your right just before the second set of traffic lights you come to.
O'Sheas has all the games on the big screen.

There's O'Neill's Bar on Hatfield Road near the train station and the town centre in St Albans. They'll likely as not show some games as well. It's not one of those O'Neill chain bars either.

So whats the deal: did Setanta show GAA at the weekend?

With the clash with the Euro 2008 on RTE, I wont get to see my county this weekend otherwise...
