Suppose its who you talk to. i've a mate from dublin who couldn't name the 6 northern counties, and when attempting he named Monaghan! Others never heard of the hungerstrikers or any of the goings on up north! These are educated people but just don't have a clue when it comes to things that matter!
I would suggest there are a large number like that.
One of my musician friends of long standing from Mayo, when asked if he had been in N.Ireland said "only in Donegal".
This man is a bout 60 years old. There are many, many, others. But then the state did not teach them about the North. Irish history ends in 1921.
What makes you capable of making a conclusion like that? In school, half of our history course in the Junior Cert was on the north's history so you are talking utter rubbish there. Irish history in school does not end in 1921, in fact, most of the teaching is directed after that date. I think that one sentence there shows you believe we don't give a toss about ye. That's completely wrong, maybe instead of airing your prejudice, you could talk to people from the south and ask their opinions on these matters. You may be pleasantly surprised to learn that we are indeed behind our people up north.
Also, I think people not knowing the six counties in the north is not necessarily a bad thing. It shows people don't see borders and the likes as a barrier to how they see Ireland as a full nation, and although the 32 counties are not yet TECHNICALLY united, people still look on it that way, and not knowing the difference between the political situations of Donegal and Armagh merely shows people don't consider these 'differences' as anything major. It is true some people cannot name the six counties but it is also true that many choose to ignore where the edges of the Republic end, and I for one don't think that's a bad thing at all!
