A friend was telling me that an apprentice boy walked up the Bogside on Monday with his sash and hat on. That is just asking for trouble.

In the name of all that is holy, THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT.

They NEUTERED the marches in Derry, so no-one is bothered any more.

The marchers are there on sufferance, having asked permission. The bloke in the sash was probably coming from the Bogside Inn.

Orlaith County: Derry Posts: 323 347732 After visiting a famous tourist attraction in the north a friend got shouted abuse at them for simply having a Derry GAA jersey on. The shouted 'Get that **** off you its Londonderry not derry' I think there is no need for that while there is tourists in the area. What message is that sending across? --- To be perfectly honest I've gotten worse abuse from Dubliners for either wearing a Donegal jersey down O'Connell Street or speaking Irish in any of the pubs. I got called some less than flattering things referring to the North for wearing a Donegal jersey and all. What kind of capital city have we got when some of these idiots don't know what counties are in their own country?

The luas driver mentions the dublin jerseys on board and goes "I believe we also have some tyrone jerseys on board"- I mean TYRONE, of all counties.

Being from Newry / south armagh we aren't bothered too much by it.

I Just try and avoid going to Banbridge on nights out for the summer and instead stick to Newry or Dundalk.

They're so sheltered in the south they wouldn't know what hit them if they were stuck in Garvaghy Road

Orlaith County: Derry Posts: 362 348399 No respect for us nordies down there I tell ya! That is the biggest pile of rubbish I've ever heard. Yes, there are a couple of people who may pass a comment or two but how dare you say it as if we're all like that. I have the height of respect for people from the north and if I hear a northern accent I make it my business to have a chat with them. Do you know why? Because I realise what Nationalists have had to go through all these years, I realise that they were very unfortunate not to share in the glory of an Ireland free from British control and I realise they are just as much entitled to a republic as we are. I see them no different to any other Irish person and why should I? No treaty or Good Friday Agreement is going to tell me that the south and six counties are separate, that there's some difference between us. As far as I'm concerned if you're born on the island of Ireland then you're as Irish as anyone else, and do you know what? Everyone I know feels the very same. I see more contempt shown to Dubliners than to people from the six counties I can assure you.

Good points MEO2009

People on this island have some stereotypical views of each other which are just that, heresay. You need to get around the island to talk to people to know what they think. Honestly I was very surprised at the strong Nationalist views of some in Dublin, Wicklow and Kildare on a recent holiday and just how much they do know about the North. This rubblish we often hear about West Brits in the South and Leinster is just that, baloney. If there's one thing I have learned, and I am glad I did, is that the Southern media are NOT the Southern people.

Glad you found out for yourself ulsterman, but there is still some who are the southern media! Suppose its who you talk to. i've a mate from dublin who couldn't name the 6 northern counties, and when attempting he named Monaghan! Others never heard of the hungerstrikers or any of the goings on up north! These are educated people but just don't have a clue when it comes to things that matter!

I have an alternative view on this
Im from a seaside resort in North Donegal where the only industries are fishing and tourism.
The bulk of our tourism trade has always come from the six counties and mainly from the nationalist community who for decades have seen Donegal as a safe and relaxed haven from the "troubles" and/or political tension that has or currently exits. Cleary this is more evident around the 12th of july or in derry during the august fortnight

So in the interests of the continued survival of my own community I sympathise with the difficulties faced by our near neighbours, we apologise for beating derry today and we look forward to welcoming you and having a few drinks with you for many years to come !!!

arrived back from a wedding in cavan and there was one on outside the pub in our small nationalist town, a small parade though, we went out and there were quite a few of us and some others wearing celtic tops. If you make a big deal out of it, it becomes a big deal. We just spent the time giving the girls in the band marks out of 10.

The 2 at the front got and 8 and a 9 repsectively.

Just telling the truth! Can't understand anyone who'd look down on people fom the six counties, not only would they be disrespecting their fellow countrymen and woman but they'd be disrespecting our history and the ideals of 1916. The only difference imo is the currency and the car registrations. We're all Irish-born, no difference between a guy from Tyrone or a guy from Kerry - just the accents!

I would suggest there are a large number like that.

One of my musician friends of long standing from Mayo, when asked if he had been in N.Ireland said "only in Donegal".

This man is a bout 60 years old. There are many, many, others. But then the state did not teach them about the North. Irish history ends in 1921.
