There are many good cross community workers trying very hard to change the mindset of these young people bring them together in events and holiday schemes Unfortunately this is a very contentious time of year where tensions run very high and communities feel isolated with rings of steel I do think that youths firing petrol bombs is starting to become the norm again and water cannon and plastic bullets being fired really upsets me as I have young children and never wanted them to go though what I went though as a youth. The southern folk all seem to get along fine what's wrong with us are we all so bitter I have looked close into my heart and I know I am nothing like that. Politicians will be making there now customary sound bites trying to score points off each other but am fed up with listening to them,am off to Clones on Sunday then am OFF SOMEWHERE SUNNY .

I see where you are coming from Willie but if you hem a community into it's own area by military force all day to let a triumphalist sectarian parade go through it's not rocket science that people will get angry. That's not to excuse violence but when Loyalist paramiltaries are escorted past your home by the forces of the state all smirking and taunting you then it's very difficult to stay calm. I am concerned for the future as I am seeing many more young bitter Catholics in these areas who have had enough. I am not condoning what is going on I am just trying to explain it but it's no wonder North Belfast has become such a fertile recruiting ground for Republican dissidents. It's full of angry young Catholics (& Loyalists) who can't get work and who feel let down and abandoned by the Peace Process.

You can only be provoked it you let yourself be provoked.

I have no problem with Orange marches. Thats their culture and let them have it. Just like they should let us have ours. 5 minutes marching up a road does no one any harm. Unless you go out to watch it and decide to let yourself feel provoked.

I don't necessarily agree with them but it doesnt mean I am provoked by them

My next door neighbour in derry was an apprentice boy and honestly you couldnt wish for a better neighbour.

I was getting the bus back to Dublin yesterday evening from Belfast and couldn't get to Jurys for the aircoach, had to wait til half 8 in the evening before the Psni let traffic through city centre again. Bloody annoying. Other than that I couldn't really care, had great craic on Sunday night having a few drinks with mates of all denominations.

Accidently caught a few mins of Talkback today. A good point was made by an old woman asking how can the 12th be inclusive when they've signs saying 'Burn All Taigs' around the bonfire. When this was put to the Orange rep he basically said 'well some people just want to be offended.'

Had a laugh at that. Can't understand why people don't just ignore the 12th. As the saying goes 'If it can't be fixed, hide it somewhere and forget about it'.

I just can't understand why this march or anything like it has to take place, they serve absolutely no purpose what so ever but to provoke trouble from the opposite side by rubbing salt in their wounds.

But speaking specifically about the orange march, i just can't understand why any half sane person would want to celebrate a victory from 1690, thats 319 years ago for goodness sake get over it!!! Now before i get accused of being a bitter, catholic, republician i want to stress that im none of those thing at all, infact im an open minded atheist who hates the sight of orange marchs and any stories of how a terrorist like Bobby Sands was a hero.

My suggestion would simply be that everybody up north celebrates the Good Friday Agreement every 10th of april, no flags, no spurious or provocative signs or symbols and most importantly nobody gets injured or killed. Happy days :-)

Fair play htaem, a very good point about the good friday agreement.

Dont agree with your comment on Bobby Sands though.

Well people are intitled to their own opinions about things! If catholics want to celebrate the easter rising or the hunger strikers so be it and if the orange men want to march on the 12th and burn the irish flag on the 11th night good luck to them! It's only fair to let eachother go!

the Tesco incident is another example, the hatred is still as bad as ever !

If you are referring to the incident involving our club, that is ongoing and it looks as though we will be well satisfied, to the benefit of the ENTIRE community.

The incident was caused by one person, who then got some support.

The club received support from thousands in the community, from across the alleged divide.
