Ok I thought Paul McGrane would be a great idea but McHugh would be even better. Maybe Declan Bonnar?

I'd be happy to see Banty stay on too. Each year we have seen an improvment in the team. Do we want to leave it a County Board that didn't prepare for Tommy's CCC meeting to bring in a better manager..?? I don't see any outstanding canditates out there ready to take on the job... I wonder who the players would want..

if your reading this banty please stay, maybe a change of backroom set up could do it,new trainer new ideas.no point bringing in retired players that never managed before they would only be in it for the europeans!!

Face - I see you are fighting a lonely battle there telling everyone that Banty is defo going but nobody is listening.

You know you are right - But still they ignore you.

I seem to remember fighting the same lonely battle over the Tommy apeal (saying it was pointless) a few short week ago - Nobody listens.

I knew I was right - I was right and even 'The Face' didn't have faith in what I was saying but we all live and learn.

By the way - You are right - Banty will go - He has done a huge amount for Monaghan and deserves a lot of credit but he will go - EOFS.

paul murtagh should be looked at great motavater and a astute man on the line he would bring in a top trainer as he is in the know but he also being tipped to get the louth job . i heard if bant stepped down he would be pushing for paul to take over.

You cant blame people for wanting him to stay although I do agree with you he will go. The massive fear is that he may take with him the spirit and heart he has installed in this team our very best qualities and that we may go back to being the rabble we were when he took over the reins. When a team like Monaghan stops playing with that never say die attitude we just are not good enough to win matches against decent opposition so the next manager should really be a county man who is well respected by all the players someone like Nudie Hughes or Ray McCarron with a decent back room set up. I dont think Monaghan people take too well to having an outsider at the helm.

Bernie Murry and Paul O' Connor?? Big step up from minor but have good experience and know what it takes. Definatly dont lack heart and are all about playing football!

id say mc hugh would have too many ties still in cavan and still close to some of the players, banty will be a hard man to replace if he does go

What about Mc Elkennon, would he be brave enough to grab the bull by the horns and go solo? He knows the team inside out and he knows a few other Ulster teams including Derry and Tyrone inside out, surely this would be beneficial?

Based on the previous posts it's narrowing up a bit. Niamh ... No way and number of reasons why not - 1. He's not a manager - refer to stint over Cavan 2. We've enough negative tactics learned 3. He'll be training youse in 5 months time Also count out ... Sean Boylan - Doesn't want it Joe Kernan - Not against his sons Paul Grimley - Not available Bernie Murray - Not yet Pete McGrath - Not interested Nudie Hughes - Not Good enough Declan Loughman - not yet Damien Mone - Not yet Mickey Morgan - No Hugo Clerkin - No Gerry McCarville - Wouldn't want it Stefan White - No Paidi O'Se - If pigs fly Niall Conway - Not available Damien Mone - Not Yet Eugene McGee - Wouldn't want it Eamon Mc Enaney - Not good enough Martin McHugh - Wouldn't want it Paul McGrane - Possible Selector Paddy Kerr - Possible Selector Mickey McConville - Outside option Mick O'Dowd - Only 'possible' Monaghan option Gerry McEntee - Good Candidate - If interested Peter Canavan - - Good Candidate - If interested John Rafferty - Very good and experienced manager and ready for the step up * The next county manager must be an experienced manager or a very experienced player because there is such a step up to Inter County standard for organization, management and tactics. Don't think there's a good enough man in the county. It's not a job for some fellow just because he's worn the county jersey. ** It's not about the Manager alone - but the whole team and set up. Who have they with them? On the field, on the sideline and off the field?

Another name being mentioned and doing the rounds ...

James McCartan
- He'd be a good ex-footballer, with pedigree, ambition and plenty of management experience. Probably need a good backroom team- but would be a worthwhile boy to interview.

Mickey McConville - Outside option
Mick O'Dowd - Only 'possible' Monaghan option
Gerry McEntee - Good Candidate - If interested
Peter Canavan - - Good Candidate - If interested
John Rafferty - Very good and experienced manager and ready for the step up

Very interesting post there jmeehan. You've clearly been giving this a lot of thought. A few questions in response. Excuse my ignorance.

Who are Mickey McConville and John Rafferty?

John Raffery was the Armagh physical trainer under Joe Kernan; seriously respected man in conditioning circles. Not a chance of him being interested. Likewise Canavan, McGrane, etc.
