There is a car parts shop in the Castletroy Shopping Centre, (Superquin) that stocks hurleys from about 5 different hurley makers, it might be worth checking there first , as a one stop shop, rather than travelling the whole county. Preference for hurleys is a very personal matter, you will get a large difference of opinion with in a team on good/bad hurleys IMO 38yearsawaiting (Limerick) - Posts: 58 - 28/06/2013 14:31:52 1417652 Link 0 |
Lads if your serious about what hurleys you use stay well clear of the shops and go to your local hurley maker..best man to deal with in Limerick is Ed Shanahan in Clarina, he will shape it or lighten it or do whatever you want done..you take a left at the traffic lights in Clarina if coming out from Limerick city pass the clubhouse pitch in Ballybrown and head down the road about half a mile and hes on the right as you go around the bad bend, cant miss it..and hes the only hurley maker around that uses all IRISH ash.. as for Torpey foreign ash and very weak aswell.. 3menmidfield (Limerick) - Posts: 10 - 28/06/2013 22:04:11 1418000 Link 0 |
I have used hurleys form a few makers around ireland , burke in tipp , delaney in johnstown , dowling in kilkenny , o conner newtown, pat kearney in tipp, and dalys , but the only who actually wont let you leave unless your 100% happy with the sticks you have picked is Ed shanahan, he would talk for ireland but you will get a great service , its half the battle when a hurley maker is willing to pay a little extra for the best irish ash plank , alot of makers are using imported timber that is very dry and break easily. media00 (Limerick) - Posts: 13 - 29/06/2013 10:15:55 1418027 Link 0 |
